Bogota, Colombia’s capital, is located at an altitude of 2,600 meters in the central region of Cundinamarca with close to 8 million inhabitants. Its main attractions include the colonial district of Candelaria, Bolivar Square, as well as many museums, historical monuments, shopping centers and renowned national and international cuisine. A few hours from the capital, you can visit the Laguna de Guatavita, an ancient indigenous site belonging to the Muisca community. Or head to Chingaza National Park to enjoy the “paramo” (a regional, treeless ecosystem) and visit the Siecha lagoons, Chicaque Park or the Salt Catheral in Zipaquira.
The Coffee Region is without a doubt a destination you should not miss if you want to discover the roots of Colombian culture. It’s made up by three cities: Manizales, Armenia and Pereira. You can stay at a coffee producing farm and learn about the coffee making process from the bean to the cup.
Discover the Cocora Valley in a Willis Jeep, on horseback or on foot and take in the immense, wax palm trees surrounded by luscious green mountains. Take a stroll through its colorful villages like Salento where you can sample the region’s typical dishes.
