Bogota, Colombia’s capital, is located at an altitude of 2,600 meters in the central region of Cundinamarca with close to 8 million inhabitants. Its main attractions include the colonial district of Candelaria, Bolivar Square, as well as many museums, historical monuments, shopping centers and renowned national and international cuisine. A few hours from the capital, you can visit the Laguna de Guatavita, an ancient indigenous site belonging to the Muisca community. Or head to Chingaza National Park to enjoy the “paramo” (a regional, treeless ecosystem) and visit the Siecha lagoons, Chicaque Park or the Salt Catheral in Zipaquira.
Cabo de la Vela and Punta Gallinas are two of Colombia’s most northern points, located in the peninsula of La Guajira. It is remote region, home to the indigenous Wayúu community. Learn more about their ancestral traditions and discover their unique handicrafts. Between the sand dunes and rocky cliffs, the Guajira desert borders the Caribbean Sea, the perfect spot for an excursion in a 4×4!
Tayrona Park, rich in biodiversity, is located on the Caribbean coast. If you’re lucky, you’ll have the chance to see monkeys and rare species of birds. Explore its steep jungle trails and take in the exceptional panoramic view of crystal clear Caribbean waters. Continue walking along the coast, take a dip in the sea from time to time before reaching Cabo San Juan, where you can spend the night in a hammock or tent.
Located in northern Colombia and spreading across the departments of Magdalena, La Guajira and Cesar, is the snow-capped mountain range of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The region is home to the highest coastal mountain in the world. Hidden in the Teyuna Archaeological Park is the Lost City, was the heart of the Tayrona civilisation. Along historical and cultural trails, discover more about the region. The park’s wildlife is incredibly diverse and you might have the chance to see jaguars, tapirs, paramo deers, condors, paujils, mountain parrots, and many more.
Cartagena is undoubtedly one of Colombia’s most charming cities, a sweltering port city with colourful, colonial houses, and narrow, cobbled streets. It’s the point of connection with the Rosario and San Bernardo islands, as well as Providencia and San Andres. Its mix of colonial and modern architecture, vibrant nightlife, stunning beaches, and gastronomic delights makes it a paradise for its visitors.
