Day by Day Overview
Pick up at the airport of Antananarivo, the capitol of Madagascar, and then drop straight to the hotel (a proposal city tour, can be arranged depending on the arrival time).
Overnight : Nosy Manga
Departure from the city of water to reach Andasibe, driving on the National Road 2. On our arrival, a visit in the reserve of Vakona is on the schedule where we will discover several lemurs and reptile endemics of Madagascar. This is the famous lemur island.
Overnight: Relais du Mantadia
Today visit Analamazaotra National Park in Voi. This is to meet the legendary indri-indri, the biggest lemurs on the island. After the few hours visit inside the national park, a kayak is scheduled to pick us up in the middle of the forest to return on the entrance. After lunch, head back to Antananarivo, the drive may take us about 4 hours until we reach the edge of the city.
Overnight: Relais du Mantadia
Today we travel to the west side of Madagascar, on a Tsaradia flight. The total flight time is approximatively 1 hour and 15 minutes. On landing, a 4WD is waiting to take us to the Kirindy forest where our next adventure will be. A night walk inside Kirindy Forest is an exciting experience, offering a chance to see rare nocturnal wildlife up close. Here’s what you can expect to see:
- Fossa (if you’re lucky) – Madagascar’s top predator
- Mouse Lemurs – including the world’s smallest primate, the Madame Berthe’s Mouse Lemur
- Giant Jumping Rat – a rare, rabbit-like rodent
- Chameleons – different species, including tiny Brookesia chameleons
- Geckos – leaf-tailed geckos with incredible camouflage
- Owls and Nightjars – Madagascar’s nocturnal birds
- Snakes – harmless, but some like the Madagascar ground boa may be seen
The forest feels alive with sounds – chirping insects, distant lemur calls, rustling leaves. You’ll walk along narrow trails, guided by a flashlight or headlamp. The air is warm and humid, sometimes with a cool breeze.
Today is spent inside the same national park; the species that are spotted during the day time are different from the nocturnal breeds. It’s also another chance to meet the legendary fossa or the Cryptoprocta ferox. The total time of visiting the area is about 3 hours.
Lunch time is scheduled to be in the same hotel. After a good meal the next destination will be Morondava that takes us 2 hours to drive to, visiting the three legendary baobabs on the way. For photographers, an early waking up at 5 am to see the sunrise on the baobabs can be arranged while in Kirindy reserve.
Overnight: Palissandre Cote Quest
Local flight with Tsaradia company to return in Antananarivo, which takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. The flight is usually scheduled in the afternoon, so lunch time in a recommended restaurant is scheduled with the guide. Upon landing in Antananarivo, the car would be waiting for a transfer to the accommodation, which is about a 10-minute drive.
