Day by Day Overview

You are most welcome to Madagascar! We will meet you upon your arrival at the International Airport Ivato Madagascar and after formalities will transfer you to your hotel.

Overnight: Antananarivo hotel, breakfast included

After your early breakfast, you will transfer to Miandrivazo. On the road you will enjoy the beautiful landscape of highland terrace rice fields and colorful houses with a valley stop for lunch at Antsirabe. Continue the drive to the west coast to the Tsiribihina River.

Overnight: Miandrivazo

Depart at around 8 am to the pier of Masiakampy. It takes an hour in the heart of the savannah to get there. The crew of the barge welcomes you and the cruise will begin in the morning. You will cross vast cultivated plains, enter into the groves of Tsiribihina and stop in the village of Sahambano. The camp will be set up a little down river on a large sandbank. The barges are motor barges once used to transport the tobacco, then arranged to transport tourists. At the rear of the barge is the cockpit and the kitchen. Passengers have seats on the lower deck where meals are served.

Overnight: Full board camping on sandy beach along Tsiribihina River

The barge continued its navigation in the heart of the meanders of the River Tsiribihina. You will come across boatmen, barges and motor freight destined for local product and a means of transport and exchange for the villagers as well as herds of zebu cattle that cross the river. Along the way you stop at Begidro village (which housed tobacco concessions) and Berevo which has a dispensary run by nuns. The landscape includes cliff bats, giant capoquiers and rice fields. At the end of this day see birds such as herons, teal, knob-billed duck as the crew will find a sandbar for the camp.

Overnight: Full board camping on sandy beach along Tsiribihina River

The village wish you a safe journey as the barge continues on its way west. Along the way we see the first baobabs. Lunch on board the barge before the journey ends around noon at Belo sur Tsiribihina.

We cross the cathedrals of limestone through the great fault and move between the various caves to reach several view points. If we are lucky can meet Decken’s sifaka. Have a picnic lunch in the park.
