Day by Day Overview

Welcome by our representative at Antananarivo International Airport then drive directly to the hotel and check in.

Bed & Breakfast at Palissandre Hotel  

Departure to Andasibe. Travelling along high gorges and undulating plains, the journey east becomes more wooded due to abundant precipitation. On the way, stop at the Zen Garden, the ideal place to relax and enjoy nature. There is a wonderfull waterfall and various medicinal plants. Then visit the private reserve of Peyreras, refuge of many species of chameleons, insects and reptiles typical of the island (amphibians, frogs, snakes). After lunch, continue to Andasibe. On arrival, check in to the hotel. Departure to explore lemur’s island by canoe. This reserve contains 60 groups of lemurs, terencs birds and crocodiles. Night tour of the reserve to see the diminutive nocturnal mouse lemur.

Dinner and night at Vakona Forest Lodge 

After breakfast enjoy an excursion into the forest to see the indri indri and hear their haunting singing call as they are crying as well as observe the rich birdlife. The wildlife reserve Analamazaotra is the sanctuary of the indri indri and other lemur species. There are also some extremely rare indigenous species of birds. Fern is especially dense as well as epiphyte plants and an endemic variety of orchids. The interesting walk is a long cleared paths in a primary forest. After the visit, drive to Antsirabe with its typical highland landscape of vast fields of rice and wheat and charming laterite coloured villages. Have lunch on the way and stop in Behenjy to taste the famous and delicious Malagasy foie gras. Arrival in Antsirabe “the place of salt”, check in to the hotel.

Dinner and night at Royal Palace

In the morning, take a short city tour of Antsirabe before you drive to Ranomafana. As Antsirabe is a city of handicrafts, you will visit some ateliers like “miniature of bike, old cars” then the zebu horn workshop where you can see the transformation of zebus horn into decoration. Visit a semi-precious stone shop and possibly do a rickshaw tour. Drive to Ambositra, centre of Malagasy handicraft, well-known for its wood carvings of the Zafimaniry tribe. After lunch continue through the Ranomafana forest, a vast forest of eucalyptus. Arrival in Ranomafana and a nocturnal visit to observe the smallest nocturnal chameleon and lemur.

Dinner and night at Thermal Hotel

Breakfast at hotel. Excursion in the Ranomafana National Park, situated inside a mountainous region, to enjoy the rich biodiversity in this humid forest characterised by numerous euphorbia, epiphyte plants, palm trees and orchids. The fauna is rich too: the golden bamboo lemur (hapalemur Aureus) was recently discovered and the reserve is its unique sanctuary. There’s also a huge variety of birds, many of them are endemic to Madagascar.

Dinner and night at Thermal Hotel

Departure for Ranohira after breakfast. At Ambalavao, visit the Antaimoro rice paper workshop. Have lunch on the way. 15 km from Ambalavao, Ny Anja associative villagers’ park is home of many ring-tailed lemurs (the catta) and the visit allows you close to these sympathetic ‘monkeys’. Passing by the Porte du Sud is the beginning of the extraordinary tour of the south along endless strange natural shapes and large savannahs. Suddenly discover a new world and unexpected landscapes. Spot big herds of zebus on the way. Arrival in Ranohira in the afternoon.

Dinner and night at Relais de la Reine

Breakfast at hotel. Visit the interpretation center at Isalo then hike in the attractive Isalo National Park,  a spectacular lunar scenery of continental sandstone from the Jurassic era with deep canyons and home to a huge variety of mammals and reptiles. Walk to the lemur canyon and surprising natural swimming pool which invites you to relax and bath. At the end of the afternoon enjoy the sunset through the Fenetre de l’Isalo.

Dinner and night at Relais de la Reine

After breakfast, depart to Ifaty. Stop in Ilakaka, about 25 km from Ranohira, considered to be one of the largest sapphire deposits in the world. Continue by car to Tuléar, along the way admire the desert scenery and different Mahafaly and Atandroy tombs with full sculpture and zebu corn that is put on the top of the tombs. Arrive in Tulear, visit the seashells market and enjoy lunch. Then visit the impressive arboretum Antsokay, a botanical park for collections of the endemic spiny plants in the south west of Madagascar and a paradise for lizards and chameleons. After the visit, continue to Ifaty.

Dinner and night at Nautilius

Early breakfast, then depart for the visit of Reniala Reserve (baobab reserve) on zebu cart. An area of 45 ha that harbors a remarkable endemic biodiversity (flora and fauna) and is a meeting point for many scientists. After lunch enjoy leisure time on the beach in the afternoon.

Dinner and night at Nautilius

Breakfast at hotel. Transfer to the airport for the flight back to Antananarivo according to the flight schedule. Arrival at Antananarivo, transfer to hotel.

Dinner and night at Palissandre Hotel 

After breakfast, depart for a city tour. Visit the Royal Palace, Rovan’Analamanga. From the upper place enjoy panoramic views. Then visit of the Lisy Gallery, great place to buy souvenirs. After lunch drive to Orchid Hotel for day use and dinner. Transfer to the airport for your international flight.</
