Day by Day Overview

You will begin this memorable expedition taking the Eastern route of Uganda with Jinja as your destination for the day. En route to Jinja you will go through Mabira Forest – the largest natural forest in central Uganda. In Jinja reach the spot that is believed to be the starting point for the River Nile and learn more about this mighty river. The Nile just beats the Amazon River as the world’s longest river. Brace yourself for a boat ride along the waters of the river. Fish delicacies will be available for you if you opt to taste.

Rise early and continue with the adventure by exploring the Mbale and Bugisu Region. Your guide will enlighten you about circumcision among the Bagisu people and the rituals associated with this cultural practice. When you get to Kapchworwa, be keen to learn about the Sebei people and the undesired cultural practice of female genital mutilation.

View the Wagagai peak of Mount Elgon from a distance, the 4,321 m peak is shared by Uganda and Kenya. Your day’s ultimate activity will be hiking to Sipi Falls. Keep your camera close so you can take great pictures of this experience. You will enjoy the beauty and scenery of the falls and see the fauna and flora including elgonensis lobelia and dotted clusters of peculiar groundsels.

Accommodation: Mbale Resort Hotel

The third day of this safari will be spent traversing the vast plains and semi-arid savannah of north eastern Uganda with a motive of reaching Kidepo Valley National Park. Observing that this is quite a long journey, you will reach the park in the evening and proceed directly to the lodge to relax.

Kidepo Valley National Park is one of the wildest and most spectacular reserves in Africa with a landscape of small hills, rocky outcrops and inselbergs. The temperatures in Kidepo are usually high and this park will certainly give you a good taste of adventure! While in Kidepo you will have stunning panoramic views of the Narus River Valley and wildlife such as elephants, buffaloes, jackals, Jackson’s hartebeest and klipspringer among others. The park is also renowned for its exceptional variety of birds of prey. While there you may spot ostriches, kori bustards, pygmy falcons, Verreaux’s eagles, Egyptian vultures, Abyssinian ground hornbills and more.

Accommodation: Kidepo Savannah Lodge

Game viewing is central to this safari and this will be a great opportunity to encounter herds of buffalos, elephants, zebras, giraffes and antelopes among others. While big cats tend to be elusive, Kidepo Valley gives better chances to spot lions, leopards and cheetahs going about their hunting business. Bisecting the park gives you a chance of encountering animals such as the hunting dog, bat-eared fox, striped hyena and other animals endemic to Kidepo National Park.

This safari is designed to avail you with opportunity to learn more about Africa and experience life here so after the game drive, you will have a cultural interaction with the Karamajong people at Karenna or Kapedo. Meet the local elders and have an opportunity to interact with them as they show you the kraals, the grinding stones and many more interesting items used by them.

Accommodation: Kidepo Savannah Lodge

You leave Kidepo Valley early and head southwards to Murchison Falls National Park, transferring through Gulu – Uganda’s biggest town in the north. You will continue the drive through the flat scenic landscape with local villages while enjoying the Ugandan countryside. Arrive at Murchison Falls National Park in the afternoon and check in at your lodge.

Murchison Falls is Uganda’s largest national park and is a home to over 400 bird species. The park is also endowed with several attractions including mammal species with four members of the big five (lion, leopard,  elephant and buffalo). If you didn’t see any of these in Kidepo Valley, Murchison Falls provides a fresh opportunity to search for these elusive species. Other game includes bush bucks, Uganda kob, water bucks, warthogs, giraffes, Jackson’s hartebeest, hyenas, hippos and crocodiles among other resident creatures.

Accommodation: Fort Murchison

You begin your exploration of the park with a game drive in the northern circuit of the park. There you will encounter beautiful rolling plains where you may see lions, giraffes, hartebeest, buffalos, elephants, bush buck, spotted hyenas, wild cats, leopards as well as many other mammals. For the birders, this area supports the secretary bird, black chested snake eagle, tawny and marshal eagles, carmine and swallow-tailed bee-eaters among others.

In the afternoon, you will go for a boat trip to the bottom of Murchison Falls where you will view the Nile as it thunders through a small 7-meter gap down to the delta. This experience is breathtaking and the mighty thunder of the falls should not be missed! The banks of the Nile are home to many animal and bird species; huge Nile crocodiles and hippos and other wildlife that may come down to drink from this mighty river. You may see the pre-historic shoebill, saddle-billed stork and many other birds.

Accommodation: Pakuba Safari Lodge

Early in the morning we drive out of the park through Masindi town to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a memorable encounter with white rhinos. After this activity you will drive back to Entebbe and drop off at the airport.
