The drive from Kampala to Bwindi lasts for 8 hours, and you will therefore have several stopovers during the journey including one at the equator where you will have an opportunity to take pictures and grab a few refreshments as well as African crafts which you can obtain from the local craft shops before hitting the road again.
The next stop will be in Mbarara town where you will have a lunch break. The guide will take you to one of the tourist restaurants in the town, with options of you trying local or continental dishes for lunch. After lunch, embark on your journey once more, proceeding to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and direct to your lodge where you will check in for dinner and overnight stay.
After an early morning breakfast get your packed lunch and head to the park headquarters for a briefing about gorilla trekking. After the briefing you will be divided in groups of 8 and then head into the Bwindi forest to search for the mountain gorillas. It usually takes between 1-8 hours of trekking to find the mountain gorillas. The activity is surely strenuous but then again fully rewarding on sight of the huge gorillas. You will be able to take pictures and observe their various characters as they feed play and relate. You’re allowed a full hour with these creatures and thereafter head back to the park headquarters. In the afternoon your will transfer to lake Bunyonyi, a beautiful lake dotted with several islands.
After an early morning breakfast, head for a boat cruise on Lake Bunyonyi in which you will visit several islands as you learn about the lake and the history of the people living in the area. Return to the hotel, pack up and then embark on the journey to Kampala with a stopover at Igongo cultural centre where you will have lunch and also take a mini-tour in the centre to know more about the Ankole culture. Then drive to Kampala for drop off at a hotel or the airport.
