Mid Range
The Eastern Gorilla is the largest living primate and a critically endangered species. At present, there are slightly over 1000 mountain Gorillas. Uganda has more than half of the world`s mountain gorillas. These are found on the Virunga Mountain slopes in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, located in South Western Uganda. The mountain gorilla is highly social and lives in a relatively stable family group comprising an average of 10 individuals. The group is held together by long-term bonds between adult males and females. 61% of the groups are composed of one adult male and several females; 36% contain more than one adult male. The remaining gorillas are either lone males or exclusively male groups, usually made of one mature male and a few younger males.

After an early breakfast, our company representative will pick you up from your hotel or residence for a transfer to Bwindi Forests National Park. The journey takes you through the Masaka-Mbarara highway, with your first stopover at the Uganda Equator. Here feel free to stretch, take photos, have some refreshments/snacks and then proceed to Mbarara, where you stop for lunch and a visit to Igongo Cultural Center, which gives you a chance to explore the interesting Ankole museum. At this cultural site learn more about the Bahima as well as Ankole cultures in Uganda. Proceed to Bwindi National Park, arriving in the evening, and check in at your booked accommodation, for dinner and an overnight stay.
After breakfast, join your guide for a transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing about the trekking experience and what is expected while on the trek. Once you locate a gorilla family, you will stay with it as you observe their behaviour and take photos of them. It is paramount to note that the trekking can last several hours – this depends on the location of the gorilla family on that day. After the trekking adventure, you are given a certificate of participation, and your guide transfers you back to the lodge.
Early in the morning, after breakfast, you will visit the Batwa community for a cultural encounter with the Pygmies – the shortest people in the world. Learn about their rich history and experiences. After this, you will start your journey back to Kampala.
