This day tour is in two parts, starting with a tour around bustling Kimironko Market, one of Kigali’s largest and most well-known markets, full of people and stalls selling a huge range of goods, from fruits and vegetables to cloth and craft products. On the second part of the tour, you will meet Virginie, a local Rwandan local who makes colouful shopping bags and weaves baskets. Virginie will explain the role of weaving baskets in Rwanda’s history and culture and how this has helped her to earn a living and raise her family.

Day Tour Overview

In the morning the guide will pick you up from your hotel, give you briefing about the day’s activities, and you will feel free to ask him any questions. Afterwards head to Kimironko market , one of the largest and well known local markets in Kigali. Kimironko Market is a huge covered market, teeming with people and the most wonderful stalls selling everything you can imagine from fruits and vegetables to cloth and craft products.

After the tour of the market you will join Virginie, a Rwandan local who makes bags and baskets, for one of the most interesting local experiences. Join Virgine in her daily life activity, where she will be able to teach you how she makes the most amazing handmade bags in different colors made with quality materials and used as shopping bags. She also weave baskets, and Virginie will explain how basket weaving has played a significant role in Rwanda history and culture. It has helped her to earn a living and raise her family.
