Guided

Walk through the thick forest of Volcanoes National Park, on steep and muddy routes, as you search for your allocated gorilla family. Once you find the family, follow your guide's instructions and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime, unique wildlife experience, taking photos and watching the family's interactions with each other. After the trek, visit the Ellen DeGeneres Conservation Campus, devoted to the work of Dian Fossey, followed by the Gorilla Guardian Village, which supports communities around Volcanoes National Park.
From USD 2,230 per person
Early in the morning at 4:00 am, you will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali and transferred to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for assembly and briefing about the endangered mountain gorillas and the volcanoes as well. The meeting is compulsory and it is also at this time that you get to be assigned into gorilla families and porters. According to how gorillas are located, gorilla groups are allocated taking into account your overall fitness. Porters are there to help you carry extra luggage or heavy equipment.
Now that you are ready, head to the forest to track your gorilla group along with other visitors. You will go through thick forest, steep and muddy areas before finally meeting the gorilla family. Follow instructions from the head guide and take as many photos as you can. Stay calm and do not make sudden movements. The memory of the time spent with the gorilla family will always remain with you because watching a family of mountain gorillas is very different from any other wildlife experience.
After the trek you will pass at Ellen DeGeneres Conservation Campus which is devoted to the work of Dian Fossey. Have lunch and in the afternoon visit Gorilla Guardian Village which is a non-profit organisation that aims at increasing livelihood opportunities for communities around Volcanoes National Park for culture experience. Afterwards you will return back to Kigali, arriving at approximately 6:00 pm.
