After breakfast you will head out for a full day in this beautiful reserve with its rugged terrain. Focus your search for animals along the river banks, where the animals come to drink in the heat of the day. The Uaso Nyiro River flows gently through the dry landscape, helping sustain life in this harsh environment and providing excellent sightings. Shaba National Reserve is where the famous conservationist George Adamson did his research on lions. In the afternoon you will head to the reserve for a game drive and return to your lodge in the evening for dinner.

The park offers excellent sightings of pelicans bathing in the fresh water streams that lead into the lake and sightings of thousands of flamingos that come to the park to breed. The park is a true bird watchers paradise. Various game animals inhabit the park, including the white rhino which are watched over in a sanctuary in the park. Travel via Narok and climb the Hemingway’s wall before reaching the park in time for lunch. Later you will head out for your first game drive in the park and be able to experience the vast number of animals that roam the plains. The Mara river that provides an abundance of water to support the huge herds is also the place where the most dramatic wildlife scenes take place during the great wildebeest migration’s river crossing. Search for the famed black-manned lions and if you are lucky enough, experience a kill. Later you will make your way to your camp for the evening.

You can explore the surrounding areas of the lake or spend some time enjoying various optional activities, including a bird walk or a boat ride. The lake attracts many animals to its banks, including giraffe and large herds of buffalo that love to wallow in the mud. You will also see many hippos in the shallows, as they wait out the hot hours of the day in the water.
