Day by Day Overview
Your mountain adventure begins with a professional morning pick-up by your Professional Stan Safaris mountain guide and vehicle from your residence, hotel in Arusha, or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), commencing the drive to the Arusha National Park Gate. Upon registration at Momela Gate (1,500m), you will meet your support team, including your personal porter and cook, and begin your trek, accompanied throughout by a mandatory armed ranger due to the high density of wildlife.
The ascent is a beautiful walk through the lower montane forest, where you will frequently spot buffaloes, giraffes, warthogs, zebra, colobus monkeys, and various antelopes grazing in the glades. After approximately 4-5 hours of trekking, you will arrive at the comfortable Miriakamba Hut (2,514m), where you will enjoy a warm dinner and a comprehensive briefing for the challenging day ahead, concluding your first day amidst the sounds of the forest.
This day is the most challenging and rewarding segment of the accelerated trek, beginning with an early breakfast before setting off on the steep path to Saddle Hut (3,570m), located on the ridge overlooking the saddle between Little Meru and Socialist Peak. Following a rest and an early hot lunch at Saddle Hut, your summit push begins immediately in the early afternoon (around 1:00 PM) to ensure you reach the summit and complete the long descent within safe daylight hours.
The climb is relentless, taking you up steep scree slopes and along narrow ridges, allowing you to pass Rhino Point (3,800m) and climb through the night towards Socialist Peak (4,566m). Reaching the summit, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic sunrise view of the Ash Cone and the entire crater, with the distant form of Mount Kilimanjaro dominating the eastern horizon. Immediately after your achievement, you will begin the lengthy descent back down to Saddle Hut (3,570m), arriving in the late afternoon for a much-needed lunch and a well-earned overnight stay, concluding an epic day of physical endurance.
Your final morning begins with a relaxed breakfast at Saddle Hut, allowing you time to savor the final high-altitude views before commencing the final descent. The hike down is a rapid and scenic journey, passing through the beautiful rainforest and offering a final opportunity for wildlife viewing. You will arrive at the Momela Gate (1,500m), where you will say farewell to your mountain team and sign out of the park.
Following a celebration lunch and the collection of your official summit certificates, your private vehicle will be waiting to transfer you directly back to your hotel in Arusha or to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), marking the successful and adventurous conclusion of your Mount Meru Summit Express.
