MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK
It’s about 325 km from Entebbe Airport to Murchison Falls National Park. The 3,840km2 national park is one of Uganda’s oldest protected areas. Originally gazetted as a wildlife reserve in 1926, it was upgraded to form one of Uganda’s first national parks in 1952. The 5072 km2 expanse of Murchison Falls NP and the contiguous Karuma and Bugungu Wildlife Reserves are managed collectively as the Murchison Falls Conservation Area. At Murchison Falls, the Nile explodes through an 6m wide gorge and plunges 45m into the ‘Devil’s Cauldron.’ The boat trip along the Nile to Murchison Falls is one of East Africa’s top wildlife spectacles.

SOURCE OF RIVER NILE
Uganda is the source of the Rive Nile – the world’s longest river and where the Nile starts its 4000-mile journey to the Mediterranean Sea through Sudan and Egypt. The source of the River Nile is located in Jinja about 1.5 hours from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. We offer one day Jinja trips for this excursion from the city. Jinja is a hive of many other tourist activities for anyone interested in a weekend gateway from the bustle of the city including all year white water rafting, kayaking, jet boating, bungee jumping to kiss the Nile, quad biking, horse riding by the shores of the Nile etc. The Nile starts its journey to Egypt from Lake Victoria in Jinja town – eastern Uganda. When you drive out to the source of the Nile, your first encounter are the beautiful gardens in the vicinity. Next is several craft shops with mostly African pieces sourced from all over the country. You can then visit and photograph several monuments which have a historical attachment to the Nile. For example, Mahatma Gandhi requested that some of his ashes be sprinkled in the Nile after cremation along many other rivers in the world.

Jinja is approximately 54 miles (87 km) from Kampala, located in southeastern Uganda. It was previously the industrial capital of Uganda. It has Owen Falls Dam, located just downstream from the source of the Nile, and the Nile starts its 4,000-mile journey to the Mediterranean from Lake Victoria. Jinja is best known for the source of the River Nile at the now submerged Rippon Falls, which provides hydro-electric power for Uganda and parts of Kenya. Busowoko Falls is one of the last waterfalls remaining on the upper Victoria Nile. The others have disappeared under its backed-up waters. Busowoko Falls is located downstream on the River Nile, some 19kms from Jinja City in Bususwa/Bukongo village just after Namavundu Forest. You will enjoy the waterfall and water massaging up to lunch time. You will go for a local meal lunch while enjoying the Busoga culture. Busoga is a traditional Bantu kingdom in present-day Uganda.
