This Uganda safari will allow you to see gorillas and chimpanzees in their natural habitats, plus other savannah animals including four of the Big Five – lions, elephants, leopards and buffaloes. This safari also allows you to view other  animals like antelopes, warthogs, deer, hippos, crocodiles, and many others on a game drive and a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel. This safari starts in Kigali in Rwanda and ends in Entebbe in Uganda (alternatives available).

Day by Day Overview

On this day, a guide from Safari Vacations and Travel Services will welcome you at the airport. After warm greetings, you’ll embark on a journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Depending on the available time, you may visit the Kigali genocide memorial center, where you’ll learn about the massacre that happened in Rwanda in 1994. After that, you’ll drive to Bwindi. The tropical rainforest is home to half of the remaining mountain gorillas in the world, with 21 gorilla families. You’ll arrive in the evening, and check in at the lodge for dinner and overnight.

On this day, you’ll wake up for breakfast and then report to the park headquarters at 7:00 am. You’ll undergo a briefing about the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. After, you’ll be assigned a gorilla family to trek, with seven other visitors. Then, you’ll be accompanied by a ranger and guide to the forest and start searching for the gorillas, an activity that takes between 3o minutes to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. After finding the gorillas, you will spend an hour in their presence; taking pictures and monitoring their behavior. Then, you’ll trek back to the starting point to be awarded a certificate for participation in the conservation of these primates. You’ll have lunch and relax for a while. Then, you’ll embark on a 2-hour journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is the most visited national park and the second largest in Uganda. You’ll check in at the lodge for dinner and relaxation.

On this day, you will wake up for a morning game drive after breakfast. You’ll be able to see a variety of animals on a game drive. These include 4 of the big 5 which include leopards, lions, hippos, elephants, and buffalos. You’ll see other animals like Uganda kobs, waterbucks, duikers, antelopes, warthogs, and many others. After that, you’ll head to Mweya Peninsular for a boat cruise on Kazinga Channel. The channel has the highest concentration of hippos in the world. You’ll see other animals cooling off during the hot hours of the day and these include buffalos, elephants, and others. You’ll also see crocodiles basking in the sun and waiting for prey, plus birds such as the white egrets feeding on ticks on the skins of the many animals. After that, you’ll head to the lodge for lunch then embark on a 2-hour journey to the “primate capital of the world” – Kibale National Park – where you’ll check in at the lodge for dinner and overnight.

On this day, you’ll head to the Kanyanchu Park headquarters for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking. After that, you’ll be divided into groups to track different chimpanzee communities. When you find them, you’ll spend an hour in their presence as you take pictures and take note of their characteristics. Afterwards you trek back to the starting point, from where you’ll drive to the lodge for lunch followed by a nature walk at Bigodi Swamp, an activity overseen by the local community. You’ll be able to see several primates and learn about how local people partake in the conservation of tourism natural resources in the region. After that, you’ll head to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

You’ll wake up early in the morning and drive to Entebbe for your flight back home. This will mark the end of your 5 days Primates and Wildlife Safari.
