The tour departs at 7:30 am with the first stop at Arusha Shoppers for any last minute purchases before we head off on safari. Afterwards we head towards the Tarangire National Park for a game drive with picnic lunch at the park. Tarangire is well known for its huge elephant population and baobab trees. It forms the center of an annual migratory cycle that includes up to 3,000 elephants, 25,000 wildebeest and 30,000 zebras. Dinner and overnight at Bougainvillea Safari Lodge.
The Hadza, or Hadzabe, are an indigenous ethnic group in north-central Tanzania, living around Lake Eyasi in the central Rift Valley and in the neighboring Serengeti Plateau. There are (as of 2015) between 1,200 and 1,300 Hadza people living around Lake Eyasi in northern Tanzania. They are distinguished by being the only population in East Africa that continues to rely extensively on hunting and gathering for their subsistence. Linguistically, they speak Hadzane, a click-language that has phonetic similarities to other Khoisan click-languages but is not mutually intelligible with any.
After breakfast, depart for Serengeti National Park, via the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind, we descend into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. Then heard to the central park area, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. Arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti National Park. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Heritage Lodge.
Early morning game drive and afterwards depart to Ngorongoro Conservation area. We will stop over at Olduvai Gorge with its history dating back to the dawn of time. It was here that the anthropologists Dr. Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of ‘Nutcracker Man’ and ‘Handy Man’, both very significant links in the chain of human evolution. Late afternoon transfer to Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge where you will have dinner and overnight
After an early breakfast, you will descend over 600 meters into the crater. The wildlife here is supported by a year round supply of water and food and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area supports a vast variety of animals, which includes herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park, is the dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. We will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, one of the main features of the crater. A large number of flamingos, hippos and other water birds can usually be seen here. Late afternoon transfer to Tulia Boutique Hotel in Arusha for dinner and overnight, ready for the next day’s hike on the free standing Kilimanjaro Mountain.
Wake up at around 6:00 am for breakfast, pick up and transfer to the Kilimanjaro region specifically to Marangu gate, 3-hour drive, ready to register at the Kilimanjaro National Park Authorities and begin hiking at 10:45 am. The Marangu route that we will use approaches Kilimanjaro Mountain from the southeast. We will be attempting to reach the Mandara Hut and will only trek through the lower altitudes, taking our picnic lunch on the way. Once we reach the hut at 2:00 pm, we will stop for a rest for 30 minutes for photographs and to take in the mountain experience before descending slowly back to Marangu gate for 2.5 hours. At the end return to Arusha.
