Tour Overview

This three-day Murchison Falls safari takes you to the northwest of Uganda for an incredible wildlife experience in Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda`s largest, oldest, and most popular national park. Additionally, you will visit the Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary. The park is popularly known for and was named after the breathtaking Murchison Falls, which is a major highlight of the safari. The best way to get a close-up view of the falls is to embark on a boat cruise, which will take you to the base of these majestic falls. The hike to the top of the falls is a whole adventure on its own and one of the most enjoyable experiences of the safari.

A game drive around the Savannah plains offers tourists an opportunity to view the park’s game, such as lions, leopards, hyenas, elephants, various kinds of antelopes, endangered Rothschild’s giraffe and many more. You’ll also visit the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where there are 22 southern white rhinos. Day by Day Overview

In the morning, the driver/guide will meet you at your accommodation. You will have a briefing before setting off for the safari. Our first visit will be at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where you will have a chance to see the white rhinos. After that we will continue with the journey, have lunch in Masindi town, and then proceed to your hotel.

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Uganda’s wild rhinos became extinct in the early 1980s after poaching, conflict and habitat loss. However, in 2005 six rhinos were reintroduced to Uganda at Ziwa Rhino Reserve. There are now 22 southern white rhinos, including nine baby rhinos. Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary allows you to experience the majesty of these creatures up close with a rhino trek, where an experienced ranger will lead you on foot to see them at a safe distance. Ziwa is also home to almost 40 other mammal species, including crocodiles, hippos, leopards, oribis, bushbuck, and approximately 300 species of bird, which can be observed with a game drive, canoe trip or night walk.

After an early breakfast, we head out for a game drive, where you have the chance to see a wide range of animals. After the game drive, you will go back to your hotel for lunch and have some rest. At 2:00 pm, we start the 3-hour boat cruise to the base of the falls. You will have the opportunity to see more animals and a variety of bird species along the banks.

Murchison Falls National Park
The park is popularly known for, and was named after ,the breathtaking Murchison Falls, a major safari highlight. The falls, also called Kabalega in the local dialect, are one of the greatest in Africa and are where the Nile River passes through many miles of rapids before narrowing to a width of about 20 feet and dropping about 400 feet in a series of three cascades. The initial fall of 130 feet is generally recognised as Murchison Falls. The best way to get a close-up view of the falls is to embark on a boat cruise, which will take you to the base of these majestic falls. En route, keep an eye out for the various animals like crocodiles and hippos in the waters and along the shores. The hike to the top of the falls is a whole adventure on its own and one of the most enjoyable experiences of the safari. The Falls are just one part of the Murchison Falls National Park. The park is host to over 76 mammal species and 420 bird species. A game drive around the Savannah plains offers tourists an opportunity to view the park’s game, such as lions, leopards, hyenas, elephants, various kinds of antelopes, endangered Rothschild’s giraffe and many more.
