Gorilla trekking is one of Africa’s greatest wildlife encounters and something considered to be a unique African adventure. It offers both magically beautiful and soul-changing encounters with these incredible gentle giants. You’ll visit Nyungwe National Park for chimpanzee trekking, Kahuzi Biega National Park for lowland gorilla trekking and proceed further to Volcanoes National Park and Bwindi/Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for mountain gorilla trekking. Having the experience of both eastern gorilla species is a fascinating adventure.

After an early morning breakfast at your residence or at your hotel, your guide will meet and greet you and give you the chimpanzee and lowland gorilla trekking briefing. You will then visit the Kigali genocide museum to pay your respects to the victims of the1994 Rwanda Genocide. This will be followed by a transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

At 04:30am have an early morning breakfast or order a packed breakfast followed by a meeting with the ranger guide at Gisakura and then transfer to Cyamudongo and/or Uwinka visitors center to begin the chimpanzee tracking. Subsequently there will be a canopy walk that starts at Uwinka visitors center and then transfer to Lake Kivu, Cyangungu.

After an early morning breakfast, be prepared with your passport to cross the border at Rusizi (1) and proceed to Kahuzi Biega National Park to participate on the lowland gorilla tracking on arrival. You’ll be accompanied by a ranger guide and his team of trackers to hike into the forest in search of the gentle giants. Once you find them you’ll be allowed to stay with them for an hour and after the experience return to the start point and then transfer back to Bukavu and or to Rwanda provided there’s available time for crossing the border.
Overnight at Nediva Bed & Breakfast in Congo (DRC)/Peace Guesthouse in Rwanda
After an early breakfast, begin the journey along the lakeside to the stunning Virunga mountains that stretches the borders of Rwanda, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo, home to half the population of mountain gorillas, the other half inhabiting Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, Uganda. Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda is believed to be one of the best place for trekking gorillas with the price of the trekking ticket doubling if not tripling other sites for gorilla trekking. Lunch will be enroute at Lake Kivu before checking into Volcanoes National Park.

Today participate on a Rwanda gorilla trek at additional cost of USD 1,500. Alternatively, participate in a Bosoke Volcano Hike. Early morning breakfast will be followed by a transfer to Kinigi park headquarters for a trekking briefing and then hike up into the rainforest to find a troop of magnificent mountain gorillas. Each troop has its own 24-hour guard, so their location is known, you usually have an hour with them, time to sit and observe them at very close quarters indeed. After the day experience return back to the Lodge.

After an early breakfast, return to Volcanoes National Park headquarters at Kinigi ahead of the golden monkey trekking, before midday or latest 1pm. Then transfer to Bwindi/Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Uganda for your second mountain gorilla trekking.
Overnight at Travelers Rest Hotel or similar
Please note that this is an optional second gorilla trekking at additional cost of USD 800. Alternatively you’ll go for Sabyinyo Volcano trekking, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. After an early morning breakfast, transfer to the ranger station for gorilla trekking briefing on dos and don’ts while you will be interacting with gorillas. Afterwards you will be accompanied by a senior ranger guide for the hike into the forest in search of gorillas. Once you find them, you will be allowed to stay with them for an hour. After this amazing experience return back to the lodge.

A leisurely breakfast will be followed by transfer back to Kigali leaving the magnificent forest and volcano mountains to the gorillas marking the end of your safari. Upon arrival in Kigali, Rwanda your driver guide will drop you at your hotel or at the airport for your onward flight.
