On this popular safari, you will spend quality time in the incredible Serengeti National Park, following the unique spectacle that is the Great Migration. You will also have the opportunity to visit Lake Manyara, the 7th largest lake in Tanzania, Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest inactive, unbroken and unfilled volcanic caldera, Lake Natron, a beautiful soda lake, and Tarangire National Park, a bird watcher's paradise.
From USD 2,360 per person
Your safari begins with a trip to Tarangire National Park. Tarangire is famous for its diverse landscape. The park is also known for its abundance of ancient baobab trees which dot the landscape and dwarf the animals around them. The river within the park is surrounded by wildlife ranging from lions and leopards to zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes and elephants. In fact, the park has the largest concentration of elephants in the whole country and provides a unique opportunity to observe the interaction between elephant families. The lunch area is also fascinating, boasting an observatory with amazing views of the river and wildlife (if you’re lucky you might witness a hunt while having your picnic). In the afternoon we will do a game drive before continuing on to your accommodation.
You’ll be picked up from your hotel early today to start a beautiful journey across the Great Rift Valley, where you’ll enjoy a full day game drive. Although small in size (only 205 square miles), the park has breathtaking scenery and is famous for its lush acacia forest, giant fig and mahogany trees, and its growing population of baboons and blue monkeys. Other wildlife in the park includes giraffes, elephants, impalas and huge herds of buffaloes. The lake is also home to a large number of hippos. The landscapes of Lake Manyara are breathtaking, and the game drives provide stunning photo opportunities of game gathering around the water to drink and cool off.
After an early breakfast, depart for the most famous national park in the world, the Serengeti National Park. The drive itself, although long, is spectacular. As you progress into the park, you’ll see why it was named ‘Serengeti’, which means ‘endless plains’ in the local language. The park is 18,000 square kilometers, and for most of it, the plains stretch to the horizon, defying your senses and perception of distance, seeming to go on and on forever. Serengeti is the home of the famous Great Migration, where 2 million wildebeests, hundreds and thousands of zebras and all kinds of antelopes move along the plains in search of greener pastures. As for big cats and large predators, the Serengeti is the perfect place to spot lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas, as they stalk massive herds of antelope migrating across the plains.
Today you will spend a full day in the Serengeti National Park. We are completely flexible with your preferences and this day will be organised according to your wishes. On every day of the safari, your guide will discuss times that work for you, including for game drives and wake-up time. On this day, you could do a morning game drive, return to the camp for lunch and relaxation, and finish with an afternoon game drive, or you could do a full day game drive with a picnic lunch, the choice is completely yours!
On this day we suggest a very early wake up in order to do an early morning game drive. This is the best time to see game, as most animals are most active in the early morning. After the game drive, return to camp for a rewarding brunch, before proceeding to Ngorongoro Crater, the 8th wonder of the natural world. The crater spreads for 102 square miles and has 2000 foot high walls, allowing almost every species of bird and animal that is indigenous to East Africa to inhabit its massive surface area. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of only a few locations on the whole continent where you can still see the black rhino. The crater has a river, several swamps, a soda lake with a large concentration of flamingos, a forest and open plains. It’s also famous for its elephants, which are the largest in the world and have impressively large tusks.
Today we will start very early and descend to the crater floor for an incredible morning of wildlife in one of the most stunning places on earth. After the morning game drive, there will be time for a picnic lunch near the beautiful hippo lake. After lunch, enjoy a final game drive, before ascending the crater and exiting Ngorongoro Conservation Area, heading towards Arusha. We expect to be back in Arusha around 5 pm, although this is flexible.
