Day by Day Overview
In the morning you will be picked up at your hotel, marking the start of your big five safari. Make your way to Lake Manyara National Park, established in 1960 and home to the famous tree-climbing lions. The park is dominated by the shallow alkaline lake, yet still boasts diverse habitats including grassy plains and forest. Hundreds of bird species gather here, most notably the thousands of pink flamingos. In addition to the striking scenery, you have the chance to see some magnificent wildlife in the reserve on a game drive through the park in your open roof safari vehicle. In the late afternoon you will leave the park and travel to your lodge for the night.
After breakfast you will make your way through the fertile crater highlands, passing the numerous wheat, corn and coffee plantations. You will reach the Serengeti National Park around midday. Marvel at the sheer size of the reserve with its vast grassland plains that stretch beyond the horizon as you enjoy a game drive in search of wildlife. The reserve is the largest game park in Tanzania an it is famous for its annual wildebeest and zebra migration that sees thousands of animals cross the open landscapes on a journey into Kenya. In the early evening you will make your way to your lodge.
You will have the opportunity to enjoy a full day in the park as you search for the magnificent wildlife you have come to see. During the short rainy season in November and December, the herds move from the hills in the north to the plains in the south while during the longer rainy season from April to June they return north. Depending on where they are will determine where you will focus your efforts. You can also visit the Serengeti Visitor Centre to learn more about the history of the park and the research that is being done by the Frankfurter Zoological Society. Later you will make your way back to your lodge for the evening.
After breakfast you will leave the famous Serengeti by passing through the Seronera Valley in the hopes of seeing some of the predators. Enjoy a picnic lunch before heading to the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. Reach the crater, being greeted by superb views of the impressive volcanic caldera, home to a diverse world of wildlife that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Make your way to your lodge on the crater rim and enjoy an incredible sunset while enjoying a refreshing sundowner.
Rise early and make your way down the steep slopes of the world’s largest unbroken caldera for a morning game drive in the spectacular reserve that lies within the crater. The park is home to an impressive variety of animal and bird life in addition to its lush, beautiful landscapes. You could see the rare black rhino as well as all the other big five while searching for eland, waterbuck and the 500 bird species in the reserve. After an extensive game, you will enjoy a picnic lunch before making your way back to Moshi or Arusha, arriving in the early evening.
