Tour Overview

6 Days Mount Kilimanjaro Climb – Marangu Route takes the only Kilimanjaro route that offers hut accommodation, making it ideal for climbers who prefer sleeping in shelters rather than tents. Known as the “Coca-Cola Route,” it follows a well-established trail with a more gradual ascent and comfortable infrastructure. This 6-day itinerary includes an acclimatization day at Horombo Hut, improving summit success while allowing climbers to experience rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and glacial landscapes in a shorter time frame.

Day by Day Overview

After breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate for registration and briefing. The trek begins through lush rainforest with tall trees, moss, and wildlife such as blue monkeys. The trail is well maintained and gently ascending. You arrive at Mandara Hut in the afternoon, where you rest, enjoy dinner, and spend the night in mountain huts.

Leaving the rainforest behind, the trail enters heath and moorland zones with wide views of the surrounding landscape. On clear days, you can see both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The climb is steady and comfortable. You arrive at Horombo Hut in the afternoon and have time to relax and acclimatize.

This day is dedicated to acclimatization, increasing your chances of reaching the summit. You take a short hike toward Zebra Rocks or Mawenzi Hut before returning to Horombo Hut. This climb-high, sleep-low approach allows your body to adapt to the altitude while enjoying spectacular views of Mawenzi Peak.

Today you trek across the alpine desert known as the Saddle, located between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The landscape is barren and dramatic, with thin air and increasing altitude. You reach Kibo Hut in the afternoon, rest, eat an early dinner, and prepare for the summit attempt that begins after midnight.

Around midnight, begin the summit ascent. You climb steadily to Gilman’s Point and continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut for overnight.

The final descent takes you through moorland and rainforest to Marangu Gate. After signing out and receiving summit certificates, you are transferred back to Moshi or Arusha, marking the end of your Kilimanjaro experience.
