This 10-day Tanzania safari and Kilimanjaro climbing tour is a great African combination adventure, which gives travellers the chance to visit some of the Tanzania's top destinations: Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the seven summits in the world; the Serengeti National Park, well-known for its great wildebeest migration; Ngorongoro Crater, the UNESCO World Heritage site; and Tarangire National Park, the paradise of large African elephants. During this 10-day combination, you will start with Kilimanjaro hiking for six days via the Machame route, followed by a Tanzania safari for four days.
After climbing Kilimanjaro you will go on safari:-
From USD 6780 per person
•Elevation (ft.): 5,400ft to 9,400ft
•Distance: 11 km
•Hiking Time: 5-7 hours
•Habitat: Rain Forest
It takes about a 50-minute drive to get from Moshi to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. Machame, a settlement on the mountain’s lower slopes, is traversed throughout the route. Now that we have exited the park, we hike up a ridge on a twisting trail through a rain forest. The trail may be muddy and treacherous lower down. Trekking poles and gaiters would be wise to bring along. Until we reach the Machame Camp, we travel only a short distance.
After breakfast, we leave the rain forest glades and continue uphill, passing a narrow valley as we walk over a rocky, high ridge covered in heather until it comes to an end. The route now takes a river gorge to the west. It’s time to unwind, eat, and spend the night at the Shira campsite.
We proceed eastward from the Shira Plateau along a hill, past the intersection that leads to Kibo’s peak. When we go on, our course shifts to the south-east, in the direction of the “Shark’s Tooth” lava tower. We reach the second junction, which leads us to the Arrow Glacier at a height of 16,000 feet, shortly after passing the tower. Moving on, we descend to the Barranco Hut, which is 13,000 feet above sea level then we take a nap, eat dinner, and spend the night here. Despite the fact that you start and end the day at the same altitude, this day is crucial for acclimatization and will help your body get ready for summit day.
After breakfast, we depart Barranco and make our way to the Karanga Valley campground through a rocky slope, passing the Barranco Wall. After that, we leave Karanga and arrive at the intersection where the Mweka Trail joins. We keep going up to Barafu Hut. You have now finished the South Circuit, which offers a variety of perspectives from the top. We will set up camp here, take a nap, eat dinner, and get ready for the summit day. From here, one can see Mawenzi and Kibo, the two summits.
We proceed to the peak quite early in the morning (between midnight and two in the morning). You travel northwest and make your way over steep scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. The hardest part of the walk, both physically and mentally, is this section. Then, after a brief break at Stella Point (18,600 feet), you will be presented with the most breathtaking dawn you are going to witness (weather allowed). On your hour-long ascent to the summit from Stella Point, you might run into snow the entire way. You have arrived at Uhuru Peak, the highest peak on both Mount Kilimanjaro and the African continent. The sunrise can be seen from the peak by more rapid hikers.
After reaching the summit, we start our descent, heading directly towards the Mweka Hut campsite while pausing for lunch in Barafu. For the loose gravel going down, you’ll need gaiters and trekking poles. As Mweka Camp is located in the upper forest, late afternoon mist or rain is to be expected. We enjoy our final meal on the mountain and a well-earned rest later in the evening.
Following breakfast, we continue our descent to the Mweka Park Gate, where you will pick up your summit certificates. It can be swampy and wet at lower elevations. Trekking poles and gaiters are helpful. Keep rain gear and warmer clothing close at hand. Shorts and t-shirts should be adequate. Then back to Arusha town in order to start the safari the next day.
After breakfast, we leave Arusha town for Tarangire National Park. Elephant herds and historic baobab trees can be found in Tarangire, which is well known for both. The abundance of animals and the amazing birdlife in this park are both well-known features. Leopards, giraffes, zebras, lions, and other animals are also common sightings. Dinner and overnight stay at your accommodation in Mto wa Mbu.
We leave for the Serengeti after breakfast, driving there through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area for a picnic lunch. Through the Klein Gate, we enter the park to begin our afternoon game drive on the Serengeti’s northern side. The Serengeti offers the most captivating game viewing in all of Africa, with large herds of buffalo and wildebeest, herds of elephants and giraffes, Grant’s gazelle, elands, and impala. Dinner and overnight stay in the park.
After breakfast you will start a full day’s game drive in Serengeti, home to a diverse array of wildlife, including the Big Five – lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, and buffalo – as well as cheetahs, giraffes, hyenas, and many other species. Afterwards drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Dinner and overnight stay at your accommodation in near Ngorongoro Crater.
After breakfast you will start a game drive in Ngorongoro Crater, a world-renowned conservation area and UNESCO World Heritage Site located in northern Tanzania, known for its breathtaking landscapes, abundant wildlife, and unique cultural heritage. At mid-afternoon we will arrive back Arusha town at your accommodation.
