You arrive in Lusaka, the capital city and business centre of Zambia, and one of Africa’s most delightful cities. It is a metropolitan city that offers traditional and hearty Zambian welcome to all visitors. You will be met at Lusaka (Kenneth Kaunda) international airport by our greeters and company drive and transferred to Chamba Valley Exotic Hotel on the outskirts of Lusaka for your overnight stay.
There are no planned activities on the first day of your arrival in Lusaka. So you will check-in at the Chamba Exotic Hotel (or a similar good level hotel) to relax for the remainder of the day. Time allowing, you can visit Lusaka city shopping malls to buy personal items for use whilst in Lower Zambezi National Park the following day. In the evening we will have a ‘meet and greet session’ in a nice restaurant where you will meet your fellow travellers. Activities start on the following second day early in the morning. This is the day of travel to Lower Zambezi valley via Chirundu.
Chamba Valley Exotic Hotel: Located 13 km from Lusaka International Airport in the quiet and peaceful suburbs of Chamba valley away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Each room at Chamba Valley Exotic Hotel is designed with modern décor. Hotel rooms range from lush king and queen size, VIP to standard double rooms, all with excellent facilities. These include study table, internet, flat screen TV with DSTV connection, en-suite bathroom with separate bathtub and shower. Additional facilities include a large swimming pool, fitness center with sauna, steam bath and massage, shuttles services, secure car park, golf cart services for all in house movements, room service, in-house laundry, and relaxing well landscaped gardens. You will enjoy fresh mouthwatering Zambian and multi-cuisines in the hotel’s Milile multi-cuisine restaurant before retiring to bed.
You will rise early in the morning for breakfast. You will be driven through Lusaka city and down the escarpment to the Zambezi Valley. You will travel by road from Lusaka to Chirundu (D152/RD491 about 115 km). D152/RD491 road is an important commercial artery route that crosses the Zambian border and goes to Harare, Zimbabwe. So at most this road is always kept in good repair condition.
Mineral water will be served during the drive and lunch and refreshments are provided on board en route to Lower Zambezi. About 200–300m from the Chirundu border, the unsignposted road to the Lower Zambezi branches east from the main road. We will head to Mvuu Campsite in the game management area covering a distance of 50 km for an exciting lodge excursion in the Chiawa Game Management Area.
Upon arriving in the Lower Zambezi GMA, you will check-in at Mvuu Lodge and Campsite (or similar). At Mvuu you will live close to nature as the lodge is situated in a secluded location deep within the game rich Chiawa area, next to the Lower Zambezi National Park and opposite the World Heritage site of Mana Pools. Indigenous bush surrounds the lodge, wildlife roams freely through the camp, the unspoilt and abundant river offers phenomenal game fishing – trophy, catch and release tiger fish being the common practice in this area.
You will stretch your legs after this trip from Lusaka by going for a short walk. Experience the thrill of a walking closer to nature than ever before. If time will be short to go for a walk, you will be at liberty to explore the nearby surrounding green environment of Mvuu Lodge and Campsite.
18:00 pm: Evening relaxation
19:30 pm: Dinner
You will see the Zambezi River on one side and the escarpment on the other which forms a wonderful backdrop for your game viewing. Enjoy morning and afternoon scheduled game activities that will be explored by both canoe/boat and game drive vehicle. Temperatures which can reach up to 38°C (100°F) or higher are quite common in the lower Zambezi valley, so kindly remember to carry your sun protection lotion and wide sun hat to protect your skin from the sun.
Ecology: The Lower Zambei’s prominent feature are aisles of massive albida or winter-thorn trees (Faidherbia albida) which are foraged mostly by elephants. The apple ring acacia keeps the elephant herds alive during the fierce October-November dry season. These handsome trees paint a unique picturesque landscape which this park is famous for.
