Your early arrival in Nairobi is definitely something to look forward to. As the dark skies brighten up, you will feel the excitement of your African holiday safari kick in. This short but fantastic safari to Tsavo and Watamu starts with a train ride from Nairobi. Along the way, you will spot some of Kenya’s iconic wildlife including the gentle jumbos to zebras and plains game. Arrive at Mtito Andei train station where the guide will meet you for your transfer to camp. During this 2-hour game drive to camp, you will spot the wildlife that Tsavo is renowned for, the best of Tsavo lies before you. With your camera in hand enjoy the delightful sights and sounds of this wilderness. Arrive in camp in time for lunch followed by relaxation in your tent or by the pool as you await your evening game drive. This will be followed by stories by the campfire under the star filled African sky.
Awake at dawn for a visit to the Mzima Springs. The crystal clear spring has about fifty million litres of cool, clean water gushing from under the rocks. There are also a number of wildlife species available in the area. With this visit and the game drive en route, you are likely to have an exciting morning with abundant wildlife. Return to camp for relaxation followed by lunch. Spend your afternoon beside the pool as you await your evening game drive. Alternatively, you can enjoy a relaxed drive to poachers lookout for a sundowner where you will watch the sun set over the beautiful Tsavo plains. Return to camp for dinner and relaxation.
Wake up at dawn for one more early morning game drive, this will be followed by a fond farewell as the next leg of your African holiday vacation is about to begin. The clear blue skies and the warm ocean breeze await you on this short but spectacular safari. Arrive in Watamu in the afternoon ready to spend a few days at one of the best beaches in Africa. Check in and usher in your beach holiday with a walk on the beach feeling the soft white sand beneath your feet and the ocean water on your ankles and legs.
Alternatively, you can lie on the lounge chairs with your favourite drink in hand, quietly listening to the palm trees swaying in the wind, the waves crashing on the shores and the feeling the warm African sun on your skin. Indeed, the beach is the best escape anyone can have and your beach vacation has just began.
Awake at dawn to the sound of the ocean waves. You can have an early breakfast followed by a thrilling day spent out in the ocean waters and the corals as you snorkel and eat freshly caught fish. Your visit to the Marine National Park includes snorkelling or a visit to the Gedi ruins, a historic town that dates back to the 15th century. This historic town is without a doubt a testimony to the socioeconomic structure of the Swahili people who inhabited the place back then. Among the sites is a tomb with beautiful Arabic engravings and a court that is said to have heard many a tale of the problems brought before the king in the 15th century.
Return to camp just as the orange red sunset dips beyond the horizon, your dhow will gradually sail the waters as you listen to your crew sing the local Swahili songs. Relax and enjoy the music, gentle drumming and the magical sunset over the Indian Ocean.
This is the last day of your wilderness and beach safari and it is time to bid farewell to the amazing people whom you have interacted with over the past few days. Enjoy a relaxed breakfast, a nice stroll on the beach or a quick swim in the pool or in the ocean. As you depart, cherish the amazing moments you had and the memories you’ve made. An end is just a new beginning!
