The Machame Route, also known as the Whiskey Route, is known for being a challenging climb on Mount Kilimanjaro. Climbers on this route face steeper trails and longer distances, while sleeping in tents. The climb can be completed in six days, but most people choose to take seven days for better altitude acclimatization, which improves the chances of reaching the summit. The trek starts at Machame Gate, located on the southern base of the mountain, where you'll begin your journey through the lush, fertile rainforest. As you climb, the route takes you towards the Shira Plateau, then circles along the southern circuit of the mountain, offering stunning views from all directions. The summit approach is made from the east, and after reaching the top, the descent follows the Mweka trail. Climbing Kilimanjaro via the 7-day Machame Route provides a rewarding adventure with diverse landscapes and a higher success rate for those aiming to reach the summit.
