Camping
Showcasing Tanzania’s famous northern reserves, this camping safari delivers both wildlife and scenery in equal portions. Sit back and watch the Serengeti’s wildlife ebb and flow across the savannah; you also have Big 5 game viewing in the stunning Ngorongoro Crater to look forward to as well as Tanzania’s biggest elephant herds in Tarangire, a wild game park studded with giant baobab trees. And, depending on the time of year you travel, you may have nature’s greatest spectacle to witness: the incomparable Wildebeest Migration.
From USD 850 per person
You will depart from Moshi or Arusha in the morning and drive to Tarangire National Park where you will discover the true enormity of the deserted termite mounds and ancient baobab trees. The colossal herds of African elephants dominate the golden savannah and screeching flocks of the striking yellow collared lovebird can be heard from miles away. The wildlife that roams the scenic landscape of the Tarangire includes lions, giraffes, warthogs, ostriches, impalas, cheetah, mongoose, buffaloes and baboons. You will spend your first night at Kudus Lodge and Campsite where comprehensive camping facilities are on offer. There will be a tantalizing delicious dinner served in the evening.
We will depart for the Serengeti National Park right after breakfast. If you are lucky you may encounter the odd animal en route because we pass via the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, which is Tanzania’s oldest and most frequented national park as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Site while the Serengeti is renowned for the annual migration of the herds and ever growing wildlife population and has been voted as the best national bark and safari destination in the world on Trip Advisor’s Best of the Bests Awards 2021. We will enjoy a picnic lunch on one of the kopjes (rock outcropping) then our game drive will venture further into the park. After the game drive, we will proceed to the campsite where you will have an appetizing dinner before overnighting at Embalakai. All meals included.
Early morning game drives for early risers and then after breakfast leave with your packed lunch and head out to the plains in search of more animals and birds. The safari guide will be in close contact with other guides via VHF radio to locate the best sightings of the day and you will expect to see a lot of animals in the Serengeti including the Big 5, leopards, lions, elephants, rhinos and buffaloes, but also other large game like hartebeests, zebras, giraffes, as well as predators like cheetahs and the silver back jackals. Serengeti National Park is also home to over 500 species of birds recorded and therefore one of the birding hotspots in Africa. Later at sunset you will do game viewing on your way back to your campsite for a well-deserved shower and relaxation at the campfire. Overnight at Embalakai authentic campsites. All meals included.
On this morning too you can do early morning game drives if you wish then after breakfast you are off with a packed lunch as you drive out towards Naabi Hill Gate to leave Serengeti National Park with game drives en route. On our way back to Ngorongoro we will have an option to visit the Olduvai Gorge and/or the Maasai Villages along the way. Olduvai Gorge is a famous archaeological site where Dr Louis and Mary Leakey (famous archaeologists) discovered the fossils of the hominid; Zinjanthropus boisei also called Australopithecus Boisei or the ‘Nutcracker Man’ who roamed the plains more than 1.4 Million years ago.
A scarce amount safari destinations produce the same experience as the Ngorongoro Crater – the game viewing is simply effortless. Most animals remain within the crater due to its high walls. This is the perfect location to view every member of the Big 5 in one day. We will have a wonderful picnic lunch inside the crater. The unfilled caldera is also home to hyenas, hippo, zebra, wildebeest and an impressive variety of water birds. Your guide will enlighten you by sharing facts about the animals, vegetation and locating hidden animals. Overnight will be at Kudus Lodge at Karatu or a preferred campsite inside Ngorongoro.
Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara National Park provides picturesque, varying scenery. We will have a picnic lunch at the beautiful Lake Manyara Escarpment view point with a view of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, the lake, thick Manyara forest as well as the whole national park in sight. Assorted habitats including rainforests, the soda lake and the savannah, which support the highly diverse ecosystem. With over 400 bird species, some of which are migratory, the reserve is a birdwatcher’s delight. Lake Manyara is home to the legendary tree climbing lions as well as buffalo, elephants, giraffe, impalas and hippos. We will proceed to Moshi in the late afternoon. Arrangements for transportation to the airport can be made on request.
