Arrive in Walvis Bay International Airport where you will be met by your guide and transferred to your overnight accommodation in Swakopmund. Here you will be spending the night on a bed and breakfast basis. Your guide will be happy to show you the sights and sounds of Swakopmund if you wish or you can spend the evening exploring the town at your leisure.
An early departure from Swakopmund sees you heading north up the coast towards Cape Cross to view the resident seal colony. En-route you will stop at a shipwreck and pass through the little fishing town of Henties Bay. After viewing the seals at Cape Cross we head inland towards the mining town of Uis where we stop for a late lunch. After lunch we continue up the C35 until we cross the Ugab River and reach our destination of EHRA base camp where we will be spending the next two nights camping.
EHRA, Elephant-Human Relations Aid, is a non-profit organisation in Namibia, building peaceful relationships between free-roaming desert elephants and local communities. Elephants, livestock and humans share the same waterpoints, which sparks conflict as well as resulting in human and elephant fatalities. EHRA’s creates practical solutions to help combat this conflict to secure a future for Namibia’s desert elephants. This is done through building protective walls around waterpoints, educating locals on conflict mitigation tactics and continuous monitoring of the different elephant herds.
An early departure with a member of EHRA’s team in one of their project vehicles brings you to the day’s project where you will spend the day volunteering on a conflict mitigation or community project run by EHRA. You will return to base camp for the evening after a fulfilling days work.
Another early start and this morning you head out in an open safari vehicle with an EHRA tracker/guide on possibly the most informative Desert Elephant Tracking experience available. After returning to camp we head for Etosha National Park where we will be camping in one of the three main camps to be found in the park.
A full day in Etosha National Park with ample guided game viewing opportunities.
Today we head for the Huab River area where we will be camping wild for the next two nights.
Exploring the Huab River area and a visit to DeRiet where we take time to interact with the local Riemvasmaaker community and learn more about their fascinating history.
This morning we head for luxury lodging in the Twyfelfontein area where we will be spending the night in luxury. En-route we will visit the Twyfelfontein World Heritage site where thousands of ancient petroglyphs from early nomadic San people can be seen. We arrive at our accommodation and spend the remainder of the day having a well deserved break lounging around the pool and topping it all off with a fantastic sundowner atop the massive granite boulders that the camp is nestled between.
After a relaxing morning and indulgent breakfast and before heading to Swakopmund for the final night we pay a quick visit to the Damara living museum where you will learn about the fascinating culture of the local Damara people. After the tour we head for the coast, stopping at roadside stalls and points of interest along the way.
On this final day you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home. If time allows then extra activities can be arranged before departure.
