After breakfast meets your safari driver guide for the start of your safari. You will firstly stop in Arusha town for last minute shopping if any. Afterwards, drive to Lake Manyara National Park, a beautiful park nestling at the base of Great Rift Valley blessed with rich overlapping habitats, swamps and lake. This landscape supports a large number of animal and bird species, highlights which include a large number of baboons found nowhere else in the world, Lake Manyara tree-climbing lions and huge flocks of flamingos. You can also expect to spot giraffe, zebra, elephant, wildebeest, hippo, buffalo and predators such as leopard, hyena, jackal as well as countless number of bird species.
In the afternoon depart for Lake Eyasi for a cultural encounter. The drive to Lake Eyasi is about 1.5 hours, up and across the Great East African Rift Valley. On arrival, you will visit the Datoga tribe who will take you around their homes as you interact with them and ask as many questions as you can. Afterwards you will visit the blacksmith and later in the afternoon you will go for a sunset walk along the lakeshore before driving to the campsite for dinner and overnight.
On this day we take you for an early morning hunting with the bushmen (Hadzabe). The hunting is with bows and arrows and will include tuition on survival skills. The bushmen at Lake Eyasi are divided into three clans – Hadzabe, Tindiga and the Datoga – living by hunting and gathering of eggs, wild fruits and root tubers, pretty much the same as humankind who lived in the Stone Age. After the hunting, you will return back to your campsite for full breakfast before starting your way to the vast Serengeti Plains via Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Your Tanzania camping safari continues as you drive to Serengeti National Park, along the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu up to Ngorongoro gate. After check-in, you will drive up and around the crater rim with a brief stop at the viewpoint for a photo opportunity of the crater. On the way you will visit one of the Masai villages for some more cultural encounters; the Masai warrier will invite you in and take you around their houses where you can meet children and other family members, you may ask questions and have some pictures taken with them. Later they will sing and dance their favourite songs which involve high jumping, which you can join in with if you wish.
Afterwards, drive down into the heart of wild Africa, Serengeti National Park with its endless rolling plains. Break for picnic lunch at Naabi Hills Gate or at the kopjes (rocky outcropping) when heading to the Central Serengeti area called Seronera. This is one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park endowed with Seronera River, the valuable water supply in this area hence attracts a large number of wild animals around the Serengeti. Afternoon game drive in searching of the big cats and the Great Serengeti Wildebeest Migration (depending on travel dates). Late afternoon drive to your campsite for dinner and overnight.
In the vast Serengeti plains, we take you for an early morning game drive with packed breakfast box and lunch box. An early morning game drive gives you a chance to spot some of the cat families on the road as they try to avoid morning mist. You may also see other nocturnal predators coming back from their long night of hunting, a group of lioness organizing morning ambush or eating along the road. Later break for breakfast somewhere in the bush and afterwards, if the timing is right for the Great Wildebeest Migration, you will spend much time with the wildlife in anticipation of experiencing some animal action like fighting, hunting, eating and even killing. You may spot predators such as lion, leopard, hyena, cheetah, jackals and others. Herds of buffalo, elephants, giraffe warthog, zebra and many antelopes can also be seen wandering around the Serengeti plains. In the late afternoon during or before sunset drive back to the campsite for dinner and overnight.
This is your last day in the Serengeti National Park. If you wish you can do another early morning game drive and spend much time in the Serengeti doing game drives. After an early lunch head to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, arriving for a wonderful sunset at the crater rim before dinner and overnight.
On this last day of your camping safari, you will have an early breakfast and descend to the Ngorongoro Crater floor for a wonderful game drive (picnic lunch will be served here). As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 600 meters high walls you may expect to spot herds of African elephant, zebra, buffalo, warthog, hippos and the rare black rhinos in their natural habitat. Another big drawcard in this large caldera is the dense population of predators which include lion, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever elusive leopard, which you have to look hard for. You will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow salt lake on the southwest corner of the crater floor frequently visited by flocks of flamingos and other aquatic birds. Some hippos and other animals can also be seen around the lake. Later afternoon drive out of the crater and back to Arusha for drop off at Kilimanjaro International Airport or at a hotel in Arusha. (Accommodation on this day can be included upon request at extra cost).
