A short drive from Arusha to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate surrounded by small banana and coffee plantations. Once in the park you will begin your climb up through forest to reach Mandara Hut. Explore the area around the camp and discover the volcanic remains of Maundi Crater in you want to have a short afternoon hike. The surrounding forest is home to a rich variety of birdlife and also houses a few monkey species as well.
The first part of the walk is a steep ascent that will get you out of the forest before the path soon opens up in to a grassy moorland proving excellent views of the Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Climb steadily through the moorland zone, filled with giant heather and the occasional groundsel. In the afternoon you will reach Horombo Hut, an area that provides spectacular sunrises and sunsets situated so close to the dome of Kibo.
A gradual climb towards the lunar desert that lies in the saddle between the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Here the terrain changes to screed and there is a palpable sense of being at high altitude. You should reach Kibo Hut by midday, giving you the opportunity to rest for the remainder of the afternoon as you prepare for your final push to the summit.
Your day begins at around 1 a.m. so that you can make it to Gillman’s Point by sunrise. The initial climb is steep as you make your way over loose volcanic screen. Hike for five to six house before reaching Gillman’s Point where you will rest and take in the sunrise. Thereafter you will make the final push along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak and find yourself at the roof of Africa. Enjoy the overwhelming feelings of success and take some photos before descending back down to Horombo Hut.
After breakfast you will start with a pleasant hike to Mandara before make your way through the lush forest, revealing to you how varied the landscapes are in this amazing park. Continue downwards to the park gates where you will receive your summit certificate. Then make your way to Arusha to your hotel for the evening.
Depart from Arusha in the morning and travel to the Tarangire National Park where you can marvel at the colossal termite mounds and the ancient baobab trees. The picturesque scenery and diverse bird life that assist in creating a tranquil environment in the park. There is a huge elephant population and seeing the large herds is an amazing sight. Enjoy much of the day on a game drive before heading to your campsite for the evening.
After breakfast you will make your way to the Serengeti National Park. Enjoy a scenic journey that passes the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Explore the famous park when you arrive and search for wildlife on its vast grassland plains. The park is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. Later stop for a picnic lunch on one of the small rocky hills, providing excellent views of the park below. In the evening you will head to your campsite for dinner.
Begin the day with an early morning drive in the central Serengeti as your search for animals surrounded by the sounds of the waking bush. Experience a beautiful sunrise and hope to discover some of the big cats on a morning hunt. Later you will travel to the Ngorongoro Crater where you will spend the evening.
After an early breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for the best time to spot animals before the heat of the day. Enjoy a game drive around the crater and stop for a picnic lunch at a small lake in the park. The lake is home to many hippos and migratory birds amongst many other wildlife species including the big five. Explore this amazing destination, teeming with animals that are encircled by the crater walls. After a lovely afternoon of game viewing you will make your way to Arusha.
After breakfast you will have an opportunity to donate your time to one of two causes. Decide between a visit to a local school or helping prepare lunch for some of the local children. Spend the day with these wonderful children before heading to the airport in the evening.
