On this 2-Day Mikumi Wildlife Safari by Train, from Dar es Salaam you travel by train on the scenic journey through Tanzania’s countryside – rural villages, farmland and rolling hills – to the train station at Morogoro before continuing by a one-hour drive to Mikumi National Park. Mikumi is renowned for its diverse landscapes, including open savannahs, acacia woodlands, and the expansive Mkata Floodplain. Day by Day Overview
Start your adventure early in the morning with a hotel pickup in Dar es Salaam, followed by a transfer to the SGR Train Station. Board the 6:00 AM train, enjoying the scenic journey through Tanzania’s countryside, relax, take in the views, and capture photos along the way. The train arrives in Morogoro at 7:40 AM, where your experienced safari guide will welcome you and transfer you on a 1-hour drive to Mikumi National Park.
Arrive in the park by mid-morning and prepare for an exciting game drive through one of Tanzania’s most iconic wildlife reserves. Around 1:00 pm, pause for a picnic lunch at a scenic spot within the park, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the African wilderness. This is the perfect time to take photos, enjoy nature, and watch animals interacting in their natural habitat. In the afternoon, continue your second game drive, exploring areas of the park you haven’t yet visited. Look out for predators becoming more active as the day cools, and enjoy unhurried opportunities to photograph and observe wildlife in action. As the sun begins to set, head to Tanapa Cottages for dinner and an overnight stay. Relax in comfort while the sounds of the African bush surround you, reflecting on the day’s incredible wildlife encounters.
Begin your day with an early wake-up at 5:30 am and a freshly brewed cup of coffee or tea at your lodge. At 6:00 am, depart for a thrilling morning game drive through Mikumi National Park, a true hidden gem in Tanzania’s southern circuit. Enjoy the cool morning air as wildlife awakens, providing some of the best photographic opportunities. Witness big cats in action, lions and leopards stretching or hunting, while herds of elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and buffaloes roam across the open savannah. Hippos and crocodiles may be spotted near waterholes, and the park’s 400+ bird species fill the skies with color and sound. Later in the morning, check out of your lodge and transfer to Morogoro for the afternoon SGR train back to Dar es Salaam. During the train journey, enjoy scenic views of Tanzania’s countryside, from rolling hills and farmland to small villages and forests, offering a final glimpse of the country’s natural beauty. Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam, our driver will meet you at the station and transfer you back to your hotel or airport for a seamless drop-off, concluding your exclusive Mikumi National Park safari.
