Day by Day Overview

On your first day, your safari guide from Safari Vacations and Travel Services will welcome you at the airport or pick you up from the hotel. After meeting and greeting, you’ll embark on a journey to Murchison Falls National Park, the largest conservation area in Uganda.  En route, you’ll have lunch in Nakasongola or Luwero, with stops in local markets for a local food and fruit experience. After lunch, you’ll head to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a rhino tracking experience. The sanctuary is home to more than 22 endangered white rhinos in the wild. Continue to Murchison Falls National Park, where you’ll check in at the lodge. You’ll then visit the top of the most powerful waterfall in the world, the Murchison Falls, where the Albert Nile River forces itself into a narrow gorge of 7-8 meters creating a roaring sound, and a rainbow on a sunny day before it spreads wide. Return to the lodge for rest, dinner, and overnight.

Wake up and have an early morning breakfast. You’ll then head out for a game drive in the park where you might see four of the big 5 animals – lions, leopards, buffalos and elephants. You’ll also see other animals like giraffes, warthogs, Uganda kobs, and many others. Afterwards head to the lodge for lunch and then to the jetty for an afternoon boat cruise to the bottom of the falls. The boat cruise will allow you to see water animals like hippos, crocodiles, and monitor lizards. You’ll see other animals that come to cool off during the hot hours of the day including buffalos, elephants, warthogs, and others. You’ll also witness the phenomenon where the Victoria Nile spreads wide into the river. After that, you will head back to the lodge for relaxation and overnight.

Enjoy breakfast at ease then set off on the journey to Kibale National Park. You’ll have lunch en route in Hoima City or another convenient place. You’ll arrive in the late afternoon or early evening. Check in at the lodge, then head to Bigodi Swamp for a nature walk, an activity overseen by a community-based tourism organization. A local guide will take you through the swamp’s avian and primate diversity, and you will see how the local people effortlessly take part in the conservation of tourism natural resources. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

You will have an early morning breakfast then head to the Kanyanchu headquarters for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking. You’ll be divided into groups to track different chimpanzee communities. Head into the forest in search of the chimpanzees, accompanied by UWA rangers. The time it takes you to find the chimpanzees ranges from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the movement of the chimpanzees. After finding them, you will spend an hour in their presence and then trek back to the park headquarters. After having lunch at your lodge, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, the most visited national park in the country thanks to its diverse habitats that inhabit a wide range of wildlife species. After enjoying on an evening game drive, you will check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Early in the morning you will head out on another game drive in the Kasenyi Plains. On a lucky day, you’ll spot animals such as lions and leopards, as well as  enjoy encounters with elephants, Uganda kobs, elands, and many others especially in the morning hours. Drive back to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. After lunch, take a boat cruise on the Kazinga channel, where pods of hippos are spotted along with a large number of water birds, and herds of elephants coming to drink in the channel. The boat cruise takes about two hours then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Have your breakfast, pack your bags, and then head out to the Ishasha sector, famous for being home to the rare tree-climbing lions. You’ll drive through the sector to look for these interesting carnivores, which climb trees to spot prey from a distance or hide from the scorching sun during the hot hours of the day. Have lunch then continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, arriving in the early evening or late afternoon. You’ll check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

On this day you will have your breakfast, and your packed lunch will be ready too. Drive to the park headquarters for registration, and join other trackers in a briefing about the dos and don’ts while on your gorilla tracking adventure. You will trek through thick creepers and undergrowth with your ranger guides to find the gorillas, which can take you half an hour to three-quarters of the day. The steeply forested landscape is incredibly dense but accessible to tourists. It is an extraordinary feeling being with these beautiful yet endangered creatures. Once you find them you will spend one hour with them. You’ll have your packed lunch in the forest before hiking back to the park offices where you will be awarded a certificate as a souvenir after contributing to the conservation of these great apes. You’ll then meet your guide and head to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation and overnight.

After breakfast set off on the journey to Lake Mburo National Park, popular for its large population of ungulates and for being carnivore-free, which allows visitors to view animals from a close range. You’ll enjoy on a boat cruise on Lake Mburo upon arrival, which will allow you to see several animal species such as zebras, buffalos, giraffes, hippos, and more. After that, you’ll rest for a bit, and then head out on an evening game drive to see more wildlife species. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

On this day, you’ll have breakfast at the lodge, board your vehicle, and embark on a 3-4 hour journey to Entebbe for your outward flight. Your guide will then say goodbye, and that will mark the end of the 9-Day Uganda Primates and Wildlife Safari.
