Day by Day Overview

In the morning, you will be picked up from the airport and begin your journey to Amboseli. Amboseli is south of Nairobi, a distance that can be covered in 5 hours or less , which means arriving just in time for you to have your lunch. Once you have checked in to the lodge and had your lunch, your afternoon game drive in the park begins. Perhaps this day the guide will take you down the popular spots to take in the breathtaking scenery and observe as elephants wander peacefully in the plain. You will then return to the lodge later in the evening for dinner and to have your rest in preparation for tomorrow’s activities.

Just after you have had your breakfast, you will head over to the park once again. This day will be spent wholly inside the park, and the guide will be sure to make the experience worthwhile. This will be your chance to see all the animals that live in the park maybe even make note of the animals you would like to see and check them off one by one. The day itself presents great opportunities for taking pictures – whenever you see something you would like to capture, you may inform the guide and he can help you position the shot at a safe distance. As the sun sets, you will go back to the lodge to have your dinner and to rest.

The journey to Naivasha commences shortly after you have had your breakfast. It should take anywhere between 4-6 hours as they are quite the distance apart. You will have a quick stop-over at the rift valley viewpoint to see positioned below the Great Rift valley that stretches up to 200km wide and reaches far beyond the horizon. Soon after, you will arrive in Naivasha have your lunch then an afternoon boat ride in Lake Naivasha and a walk on Crescent Island. Lake Naivasha’s environs are home to many animals most notably those of the avian species. After the excursion is done, you will head over to the hotel to have your dinner and rest.

The morning begins with breakfast, followed by a trip to Hell’s Gate National Park. This is where you will be spending half your day. You will be able to get active as this day presents a chance to cycle around the park and see the beautiful geological formations Hell’s Gate National Park is known for. You might be able to spot a zebra or a gazelle during your visit. You will return to the hotel for lunch then head over to Elementaita which has recently become popular for the large number of flamingos that flock to the shores of Lake Elementaita. Evening will soon approach, and it will be time to head back to the camp for some food and a warm bed to sleep in.

This day presents a chance to visit Lake Nakuru National Park. It features many highlights such as Lake Nakuru known for the many bird species that live there, the surrounding area which is home to many animals such as the rhino, Rothschild Giraffe, the baboons of Baboon Cliff, zebras and antelopes. Despite the decline in the number of flamingos, you may still be able to spot one or two as they try their luck at looking for food. Later in the day, you will begin your journey to Maasai Mara. You will likely arrive at the camp well before nightfall, have your dinner then retire to bed after such a long day.

On this day, you will have a full day to spend in the park just after you have had your breakfast the game drive will begin. The guide will take you to all the popular spots, or back to a spot you took notice of the day before. Anyway, there really is no wrong way of exploring the Mara; your luck might find you spotting a lion chasing its prey or an elephant protecting its young from wild dogs. You will be returned to the lodge at dusk for dinner.

This day will also find you spending a full day exploring the expansive Maasai Mara reserve. It is a perfect time to go see other parts of the reserve you haven’t had the time to visit on the previous days, your luck might have you spot the elusive puff adder or sneak a peek of the meerkats as they try and survive the wilderness. You will have picnic in the reserve for lunch and return to the lodge at dusk for dinner.

You will depart from Maasai Mara in the morning heading back to Nairobi to catch your flight or be dropped off at your hotel or preferred drop-off point. This will be the end of the 8-days we will have spent together exploring Kenya.
