Notes

When planning a safari in Tanzania, there are several additional considerations and tips to keep in mind to enhance your experience:

Timing: The timing of your safari can greatly impact your experience. Research the best time to visit based on your interests, whether it’s witnessing the Great Migration in the Serengeti, seeing the tree-climbing lions in Lake Manyara National Park, or exploring the Ngorongoro Crater. Different times of the year offer unique wildlife viewing opportunities.

Accommodation: Tanzania offers a range of accommodation options, from luxury lodges to budget-friendly campsites. Consider your preferences and budget when selecting accommodation. Staying in lodges or tented camps within the national parks can provide you with an immersive experience, allowing you to hear the sounds of wildlife at night.

Transportation: Choose a reputable safari operator or tour company that offers well-maintained vehicles and experienced guides. The roads within the parks can be rough and challenging, so having a reliable vehicle and skilled driver is essential for a safe and comfortable safari.

Packing Essentials: Pack light but include essentials such as sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, sunglasses, binoculars, and a camera with extra batteries and memory cards. It’s also advisable to bring warm clothing for early morning and evening game drives when temperatures can be cooler.

Respect Wildlife and Environment: Remember that you are a guest in the animals’ natural habitat. Always follow your guide’s instructions and maintain a safe distance from wildlife to avoid disturbing them or putting yourself in danger. Additionally, adhere to park rules and regulations to help preserve the environment for future generations.

Cultural Interaction: Tanzania is home to diverse ethnic groups and rich cultural traditions. Consider incorporating visits to local villages or cultural experiences into your itinerary to gain insight into the country’s heritage and way of life.

Health and Safety: Consult with your healthcare provider about recommended vaccinations and medications for travel to Tanzania, including malaria prophylaxis. It’s also essential to stay hydrated, especially in the hot and dry climate of the savannah.

Booking in Advance: Popular safari destinations and accommodations can fill up quickly, especially during peak season. To secure your preferred accommodations and safari dates, it’s advisable to book well in advance.

By keeping these tips in mind and approaching your Tanzania safari with an open mind and spirit of adventure, you can create memories that will last a lifetime.

Day by Day Overview

Your safari adventure commences today! We’ll start by collecting you from your accommodation in or near Arusha. As we embark on the 2.5-hour journey, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the natural beauty, scenic landscapes, and interactions with local communities. Our main activity for the day will be a full-day game drive in Tarangire, renowned for its abundant elephant populations, iconic baobab trees, and African pythons that can be spotted climbing trees. When the day comes to an end, we’ll head to Africa Safari Lake Manyara, where you’ll spend the night in a well-appointed safari comfort accommodation.

Today, we start our day early in the morning and, after having our breakfast, we will set off on a journey towards the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater. It’s worth noting that the Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact crater on our planet. This natural wonder is home to an estimated 30,000 large mammals, and thanks to its natural boundaries, the entire conservation area teems with wildlife, including the iconic Big Five animals, such as the African black rhino, hyenas, zebras, and elephants, among others. As the day draws to a close, we will make our way to Ndutu/South Serengeti, where we will spend the night at Africa Safari South Serengeti. This region is renowned for being the stage of the Great Migration’s calving season, which is undoubtedly one of the most exciting moments during the annual wildebeest migration.

On the third day of our journey, we’ll make our way to the Serengeti. After a few hours of driving, we’ll reach the Serengeti gate. Following lunch, we’ll spend the entire afternoon enjoying a safari through this stunning park. The Serengeti is renowned for its vast savannah and wooded landscapes, and it’s particularly famous for the annual migration of approximately 1.5 million herbivores.

As the day draws to a close, we’ll reach Africa Safari Ikoma, where you’ll have the opportunity to rest in a well-appointed safari tent that offers comfort. Situated between Serengeti Seronera, Grumeti, and Ikorongo Game Reserves, this location is ideal for exploring the Serengeti. It’s a perfect place to unwind, whether you prefer observing birdlife, watching a herd of impalas peacefully grazing near the campsite, or simply relaxing while listening to the sounds of the African wilderness.

The following day, our safari adventure continues within the Serengeti as we journey northward. During the migration season, we may have the opportunity to witness the incredible spectacle of thousands of animals crossing the Mara River. This is a truly unique and unforgettable experience. To conclude the day, we will spend the night at Africa Safari Maasai Boma Lodge. True to its name, the lodge draws inspiration from the traditional Maasai boma. When you look around, you’ll quickly grasp why – you’re surrounded by the Maasai culture. This village, known as Ololosokwan, may not be situated within an official game reserve or national park, but it still offers opportunities to spot wildlife.

After our morning meal, we will make our way to Lake Natron. The journey from the northern Serengeti is quite remote, offering a desolate, otherworldly beauty and an unparalleled sense of vastness and ancientness. The roads traverse untouched Maasai territory, where you’ll often see small Maasai villages and imposing mountains in the distance, set against a rugged and barren landscape. From June to November, approximately two million flamingos congregate around the lake. On our route to the lodge, we can take a detour to visit the geothermal hot springs. We will spend the night at Africa Safari Lake Natron. This lodge features a picturesque swimming pool that seamlessly blends with the natural surroundings and provides breathtaking vistas of the nearby Mount Ol Doinyo Lengai, a volcano that is still active. Take in the splendid scenery! The lodge also offers a short 10-minute walk to the lake, accompanied by a guide.

In the morning, an exciting trek to the waterfalls will be led by your guide, so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes. There are several Maasai communities in close proximity, and your hiking guide will be a member of the Maasai community. After lunch, you’ll travel to Mto wa Mbu, where you’ll spend the night at Africa Safari Lake Manyara.

Today, our destination is Lake Manyara, a park celebrated for its stunning sweeping vistas, cascading waterfalls, babbling streams with crystal-clear waters, and geothermal springs. We’ll spend the entire day on a wildlife safari at Lake Manyara and in the afternoon, we’ll journey back to Arusha, reaching our destination in time for dinner.
