Day by Day Overview

You will be picked up from hotel in Arusha and head to Tarangire National Park. The park is roughly the size of Luxemburg and covers an area of about 2,600 km². Bush savannah, seasonal swamps and giant baobab trees make up the landscape of this nature reserve and the park is probably one of the best places in East Africa to see elephants. Not only are there thousands, but they are also relatively accustomed to vehicles so you will be able to get really close to them. Apart from elephants, the park is also home to Masai giraffes, various gazelles, antelopes, buffaloes, lions, leopards, baboons and more than 500 types of birds. After an extensive game drive you will leave the park in the afternoon and drive to the lodge.

Overnight at Jangwani River View Lodge: Dinner, breakfast and packed lunch

From Karatu we depart early after breakfast and head across the Great Rift Valley’s floor, up the escarpment and traverse the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in what will ultimately end up being a pleasant and enjoyable scenic drive as you enjoy the beautiful scenery and breathtaking visitors on your way to the Serengeti National Park.

Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. We will drive towards the North Serengeti for a game drive. The great migration is suppose to be in this area from July to September crossing the famous Mara river to Maasai Mara Reserve in Kenya and back to the Serengeti. You will have a high opportunity to see them crossing while the crocodiles in the river attack them. The North Serengeti is also home to lots of big cats, elephants, giraffes, impalas, hippos and it is another good place to see the endangered black rhino. In the late afternoon you will head to Mara Heritage Tented Camp located in the North Serengeti.

Overnight at Mara Heritage Tented Camp: Dinner, breakfast and packed lunch

You can either have a relaxed breakfast and depart for full day game drives around 9:00 am with packed lunch and return back to camp late afternoon around 6:00 pm. Or you can depart at 6:00 am on an early morning game drive. Later return to accommodation for breakfast and relax for a bit and depart on an afternoon game drive with packed lunch. In the months between July to September the migration can be found in this region and the Mara River in this region offers the most dramatic river crossing of the great migration. Fierce, deep and heavily rain-fed the river takes an enormous toll on the migrating wildebeest.

Watching the wildebeest surging through the torrential flow, some drowning and a few falling prey to lurking crocodiles is an unforgettable sight. If it’s your lucky day you will be able to witness this natural wonder and watch nature take its course. Tracing the great migration you might even move towards the Lobo valley. The pristine Lobo valley is scattered with woodlands, plains, hills and famous granite kopjes. It offers an enormous amount of big cat game with lions, leopards and cheetah a plenty. During the dry season the permanent water sources in the valley attract plenty of resident and migratory animals, resulting in excellent game viewing. During the full day game drive, you will have a stop where you can have your picnic lunch. The day comes to an end with a tasty dinner and a good rest at Mara Heritage Tented Camp.

Overnight at Mara Heritage Tented Camp: Dinner, breakfast and packed lunch

Return to Central Serengeti after spending a few days in the northern part of the park bordering the Maasai Mara. It is situated on a hill, offering panoramic views of the endless savannah plains of Serengeti. You can enjoy a cocktail by the swimming pool, or sip a glass of wine in your private verandah. It’s the perfect place to relax after a day’s activities in the bush.

Overnight at Suenos d Africa Luxury Tented Camp: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

We will have an early departure from camp to ensure that we arrive at the Ngorongoro Crater promptly. We will descend into the crater as our game drive with a picnic lunch is inside the crater. The Ngorongoro Crater is an immense, unbroken caldera that was formed when a volcano erupted millions of years ago. The elevated structure encourages the animals subside within the crater which means there is a high possibility of spotting every member of ‘The Big 5’. The powerful group comprises of buffalo, lions, rhinos, elephants and leopards. You can expect to see other wildlife including zebra, hippos, wildebeest and hyenas. The flamingos will lounge gracefully on the banks of the Soda Lake whilst the vultures can be found scavenging for the discarded prey of a predator. Geese and storks are amongst some of the other bird species. Our guides are highly skilled and their ability to track down animals is impressive. This level of expertise is not easily acquired. Later in the afternoon you will ascend to the crater rim and head to Karatu for dinner and overnight.

Overnight at Fanaka Lodge: breakfast, lunch, dinner

After breakfast depart to Lake Manyara National Park which is famous for its tree lions climbing. It’s also known as the home of baboons, giraffes, elephants, hippos and much more. Later leave the park and head to Arusha via a Masai village, where you will be guided by a Maasai Chief who will show you the village, how the Maasai live, their habits, how they cook, how they take care of livestock, what and how they study, dance, etc. Opportunity to watch the village women perform a local traditional dance. The whole experience provides fantastic photo opportunities. There after you will head back to the airport for your flight to next destination.
