Day by Day Overview

Arrive at Kigali International Airport where you’ll be warmly welcomed by Vazquez Tours & Travel representative who will shortly brief you about your tour in Rwanda and transfer you to your hotel in Kigali. Arrive at Hotel Des Mille Collines for check in, dinner and overnight.

After breakfast at 07:30 you will embark on a city tour of Kigali, one of the cleanest and friendliest cities in Africa. The tour offers in-depth knowledge of Kigali’s bitter past and its bright future assuring that you feel a connection with the vibrant city’s heartbeat. Lunch at one of the best restaurants in town. Afterwards you will be transferred by road to Volcanoes National Park in the north west of the country. The transfer to your lodge in Musanze is between 2 and 3 hours driving through scenic landscape with vistas of the Virunga volcanoes. After an early breakfast at 06:00, your driver guide will transfer your to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for registration and briefing. Your driver guide will assist and facilitate with identifying a gorilla family to visit. Tracking can be between 90 minutes and 6 hours depending on what family group is assigned. Once you find the family, you will spend one hour with the gorillas, sometimes moving around to stay with the gorillas or following them. The guide will ensure you are in the best spots to take the most beautiful pictures and experience this breathtaking experience properly. You will then drive back to the hotel for lunch and refreshment. Later in the afternoon, you will visit the twin lakes, Lake Burera and Lake Ruhonda, which are are separated by a 1 km wide strip of land. These beautiful lakes are located at the base of Volcano Muhabura, close to the border with Uganda in the northern part of Rwanda. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

At 06:30 after breakfast, report to the park headquarters for your second experience with an endangered species in the Volcanoes National Park, the golden monkeys. It is normally an easy trek which might take between 45 minutes to 2 hours. You will then drive back to your hotel for lunch and refreshment. In the afternoon, you will visit Gorilla Guardians former Iby’iwacu Cultural Village, which displays a traditional lifestyle of a Rwandan. This includes dress code, food growing, processing and preparation, traditional wedding ceremonies and interpersonal relationships within the community. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

At 10:00 after breakfast, you will embark on a city tour of beautiful Ruhengeri. You will be able to visit the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International office in Musanze town and the market. After the city tour, return to the hotel for lunch. Later drive back to Kigali city, stopover at some craft shops to buy souvenirs, then proceed to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
