Tour Overview

Kenya’s Tsavo West National Park covers an area of 9,065 square kilometers. The Nairobi-Mombasa highway and a railway divides it from the adjoining Tsavo East National Park. Tsavo West is a more popular destination for its magnificent scenery, Mzima Springs which is famous for clear waters with a glimpse of crocodiles and hippos in an underground lookout, rich and varied wildlife/birdlife,  Amboseli National Park is in southern Kenya and is known for its large elephant herds and views of immense Mount Kilimanjaro, across the border in Tanzania. Observation Hill offers panoramas of the peak and the park’s plains and swamps. Varied wildlife includes giraffes, zebras, cheetahs and hundreds of bird species. The western section is dominated by vast Lake Amboseli, which is dry outside the rainy season.

Day by Day Overview

Met on arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by our Representative and transfer to the newly refurbished Nairobi Serena Hotel.  You have been booked on a bed and breakfast basis for the night. The flagship of Serena Hotels is newly refurbished with renovated guest rooms. New facilities include an Executive Lounge, banqueting and meeting rooms and a new Asian fusion restaurant: Herbs & Spices restaurant that is an addition to the elegant Mandhari restaurant for fine dining and the Café Maghreb, the all-day restaurant. Other facilities include the Maisha Health Club and Spa, and Aksum, the Ethiopian themed bar. The hotel is well known for preserving the rich Pan-African inspired culture expressed through its interiors and unique décor accents.

Overnight at Nairobi Serena Hotel

At 07:30 hrs meet up with our representative in the hotel lobby. After introduction to your dedicated safari driver guide and a pre-safari briefing, depart and drive to Tsavo West National Park to arrive at your lodge, Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge, in the early afternoon in time for lunch. Superbly situated in the lee of Mount Kilimanjaro and sheltered by the volcanic splendor of the Chyulu Hills, this classic stone-built lodge overlooks its own water hole, which is visited daily by elephants, buffalos and a wide variety of plains game.

One of the first lodges ever to be built in a national park, the lodge is cool, tranquil and hushed for optimum game-viewing, photography and painting. It is also ideally placed for visits to all the park’s prime attractions. At 16:00hrs head out on an afternoon game viewing drives in the park. Tsavo West National Park offers some of the most magnificent game viewing in the world with large herds of dusty-red elephants, hippopotamus, giant crocodiles, black rhinoceros and African buffalos. The park is also home to lion, cheetah, and leopard as well as the big five. Birdlife is abundant as more than 600 species of bird have been recorded.

Full day in Tsavo with morning and afternoon game viewing drives at 06:30 hrs. and 16:00 hrs. respectively.  Some of the interesting areas to be visited are the Mzima springs, Roaring rocks, Chaimu and Shetani Lava sites to mention a few.  On one of the afternoons, enjoy a sundowner cocktail at a location within the park as you take in the breathtaking views of the Tsavo as the African sun goes to sleep.

Breakfast in the lodge at 08:00 hrs. After check-out, depart and drive to Amboseli National Park with game viewing en-route to arrive at your lodge, Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, for check-in and lunch. Set against the magnificent backdrop of Africa’s highest mountain, the glittering Mount Kilimanjaro, the lodge enjoys a uniquely privileged position at the heart of this world-famous national park. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon to relax and soak-in magnificent views of the park from your room veranda/lounge or enjoy a swim in the lodge’s swimming pool. Afternoon game-viewing drives in the park. Amboseli is one of the most popular destinations for safari-goers to Kenya, but it also offers some spectacular views of the highest free-standing mountain in the world – Mount Kilimanjaro. Elephants are a dominant presence in Amboseli; they are tracked almost constantly by researchers; thus, the reason they have largely escaped the ravages of 1980s poaching. Here, you are able to spot some of the older “tuskers” lumbering almost delicately before the backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

After breakfast in the lodge, depart and drive to Nairobi City to arrive at Nairobi Serena Hotel in time for a farewell lunch at the Herbs & Spices Restaurant complement of Serena Hotels. Herbs & Spices Restaurant. Savour expertly crafted cuisine influenced by Pan-Asian culture that takes you on a culinary journey through South-east Asia. Inspired by a fusion of traditional composition of flavors from Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean cuisine features on the menu offering diners a selection of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes that appeal to their palates.  The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating options giving diners an opportunity to enjoy a casual lunch or something a little more intimate any time of the day. Later transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your home bound flight.
