Quick facts about the Maasai Mara National Reserve
- It is situated in the south-west of Kenya.
- It is undisputedly one of Africa’s best known & Kenya’s most famous wildlife destination. It is a must visit destination for almost every visitor to Kenya.
- Together with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, they form Africa’s most incredible, diverse and most spectacular eco-systems and possibly the world’s top safari big game viewing ecosystem.
- The terrain is classic savannah and has a fairly consistent landscape of open grasslands. This makes it easy to spot wildlife and the great wildebeest migration.
- It is best known for the great wildebeest migration which occurs annually between July and September. During this time, close to 1.5 million wildebeest, antelopes and zebra migrate from the Serengeti (Tanzania) to the Maasai Mara (Kenya) in search of food and water. However, the migratory routes greatly depend on the weather patterns and other factors.
- The reserve boasts around 500 bird species including ostrich, secretary bird, crane, eagle, marabou stock and vulture.
- The Maasai community is the largest community in this geographical area. A visit to the Maasai village to learn more about their culture and traditions will be a bonus and a great experience as you will interact with the local Maasai community.
On this day, you can choose between the three options depending on your flexibility and preference:
Option 1: Have breakfast and then proceed for a full day game viewing with packed lunch boxes in Kenya’s finest wildlife reserve, searching for the big five and other animals.
Option 2: You may opt for an early morning game drive searching for the big cats making a kill then return to the Camp/Lodge to freshen up and have breakfast. Spend the rest of the morning at your leisure either swimming, reading a book or just relaxing. Later, have lunch and proceed for another afternoon/evening game drive in search of the big five and other animals.
Option 3: You may choose to go an optional Hot Air Balloon Safari Experience (USD 430 per person). Ideally, you will be picked up early in the morning from your Camp/Lodge and transferred to the launch site. The whole experience takes about an hour and a half. From there, you can proceed with the game drives with packed lunch until the evening combing the wild in search of wildlife. You can also visit a Maasai Mara Cultural Village to learn more about their Culture & Traditions at an extra cost ($30 per person).
Return to the lodge for a shower, relaxation, dinner and overnight at Enkorok Mara Tented Camp.
This will be the final day of the safari. Wake up and have breakfast, check out of the camp then leave for Nairobi for drop off. It’s time to bid you farewell as you depart Kenya, hopefully soon to return.
