Tour Overview

Experience a once in a life time dream safari. Explore Uganda, Tanzania and finish off with some barefoot luxury along Zanzibar’s white shores. Start your adventure, with your guide and private vehicle, with two nights in Uganda’s Kibale Forest National Park to track chimpanzees. Journey on through Queen Elizabeth National Park, to catch a glimpse of the famous tree climbing lions, all the way to Bwindi National Park. A short boat ride will take you to your next accommodation on Lake Mutanda where you will spend the next 3 nights including some exciting gorilla tracking, a full day golden monkey track and a visit to the indigenous Batwa Pygmies.

Leave Uganda behind and catch a charter flight into Tanzania’s Serengeti. Spend three nights in a stunning tented camp exploring this so called Seronera region of the Central Serengeti – aptly called the big cat capital of Africa. More game drive adventure awaits you as you make your way along the Great Rift Valley to the famed Ngorongoro Crater for the following 2 nights. After exploring the Crater you travel on to northern Tanzania’s Lake Natron, a breeding ground for hundreds of thousands of flamingos. Enjoy a very special and refreshing swim in the nearby waterfall. Explore this mineral-rich soda lake and its surrounds. Before you depart this region you have the option of hiking up the sacred mountain of the Masai, the Ol Doinyo Lengai. From the top of this occasionally still active volcano you can enjoy the most magnificent panoramic view over Lake Natron and the plateau.

Your safari ends with a 5 night stay along Zanzibar’s shores and 1 night in Zanzibar City’s historical centre, Stone Town. Enjoy some rest, relaxation and well deserved barefoot luxury, and immerse yourself in Stone Town’s unique atmosphere, where African, Indian, Arabian and European cultures blend beautifully into one another.

Day by Day Overview

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport you will be welcomed by your driver in the reception hall. Start of the safari and drive to Cyanika border post.

Travel time/distance approx. 321km/7-8hrs

Start early this morning for today’s chimpanzee trek. You will drive to the meeting point at the Park Headquarters. After a briefing, you will be divided into groups before starting the walk. Once you have located the group of chimpanzees, you are allowed to spend 1 hour with the animals and watch them go about their daily business. You will then return to the meeting point where you will meet your driver who will take you to the lodge for lunch.

After breakfast you set off towards Bwindi National Park, home of the mountain gorilla. Along the way you will pass Queen Elizabeth National Park and stop to look for the famous tree-climbing lions – a truly atypical behavior! Enjoy a picnic lunch en route and take a boat trip to your lodge at Lake Mutanda.  You will arrive at the lodge in the late afternoon.

Travel time/distance – 385km/6hrs

This morning you will set off on your gorilla trek. After breakfast, your driver will take you to the meeting point, where you will receive a briefing and be divided into groups of max. 6 people, plus the trackers, guides and porters.  You are welcome to hire a porter to carry your luggage. Depending on which gorilla group you have been assigned to, you can expect a track of 1-3 hours to get to the animals. Once you have reached them, you have 1 hour to spend with them. Please note that if you are ill, have a cold or similar, contact with the animals is strictly forbidden.

Today enjoy a full day tour into the Bwindi National Park to track the golden monkeys. Afterwards enjoy an afternoon visit of the Batwa Pygmies.

Today drive back to Kigali and spend the night at the hotel there.

Today you leave Rwanda to fly to Tanzania. The flight from Kigali to the Serengeti leaves at 12.30 pm – you have the option to enjoy a city tour of Kigali and a visit to the Genocide memorial.

Explore the Central Serengeti, which is aptly called the big cat capital of Africa.

Leaving the Central Serengeti, you drive along the Great Rift Valley to the Ngorongoro Crater.  Spend some time in the crater looking for the “big 5” before heading back out of the crater towards Karatu village and Gibbs Farm. The lodge lies at the foot of the Ngorongoro Crater and is one of our firm favourites in Africa. It combines a touch of colonial history mixed with African flair.

Today set off on foot directly from the lodge for a two-hour walking safari through the forested slopes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.  Here you can see towering waterfalls and the incredible elephant dens created by elephants digging through the dense rock with their tusks to absorb the vitamin-rich soil. Return to the lodge for lunch and a relaxing afternoon.

Today we continue to Lake Natron, a soda lake along the Rift Valley, famous for its flamingoes. In the afternoon on arrival we recommend you drive to the waterfall for a swim.

Spend today with your guide exploring the region around Lake Natron.

OPTIONAL AT ADDITIONAL PRICE: Tonight we recommend the ascent of the sacred mountain of the Maasai, Oldonyio Lengai, one of the most photographed volcanoes and occasionally still active. The ascent starts around midnight and takes about 5-6 hours. From the top of the mountain one has an incredible view over Lake Natron and the surrounding plateau. It really is a great experience and well worth the effort. By late morning you will be back down where the driver will pick you up and take you to the lodge for a shower and lunch.

After lunch you drive back to Arusha and spend the last night of the safari at the Arusha Coffee Lodge.

Transfer to Arusha Airport to board your flight to Zanzibar. Transfer from Zanzibar Airport to the beach. You will spend five lazy nights here. Enjoy snorkeling, diving etc. Mnemba Atoll is not far away – a great place to swim with dolphins!

Spend your last night in Stone Town, the cultural heart of the island. The Emerson on Hurumzi Hotel is an institution in the center of this historic town. To round off the trip, we recommend a Swahili style dinner on the rooftop terrace (must be pre-booked).

Your dream safari is coming to an end today. We suggest you explore the city by foot before your get transferred to the airport for your onward journey home.
