Day by Day Overview
Pick up from your accommodation in Arusha and drive further through the Masai Steppe via Makuyuni Junction and down to the Tarangire National Park. This is now the fifth-largest park in Tanzania, dotted with amazingly big baobab trees and extraordinary large herds of elephants. Tarangire is not to be missed while on your African safari to Tanzania if you are a lover of the jumbos or other general large game. The park is home to many animal species and some rare breeds like the oryx, and some rare birds species. Late afternoon drive to Mto wa Mbu.
- Overnight at Fanaka lLodge
- Meals plan: Dinner/ breakfast /packed lunch
After breakfast, drive towards the Serengeti National Park via the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind, you will proceed into the heart of wild Africa. You will drive into the central park area known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. You will arrive in time for a picnic lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Serengeti National Park.
Overnight at Osero Serengeti Tented Camp
After breakfast, enjoy game viewing drive along the Sogore River Circuit, which loops into the plains south of the Seronera River, and which is good for possible lion, Thomson’s gazelle, topi, ostrich and cheetah sightings. The Visitor Centre close to the Serengeti Seronera Lodge and public campsites is well worth a visit after the morning’s game drive. In the afternoon, you will follow the Kopjes Circuit, which goes anti-clockwise around the Maasai Kopjes, which usually attract a number of lion and some formidably large cobras. Kopjes are weathered granite outcrops, scattered around the plains, most of which are miniature ecosystems, providing shade and drinking water in pools left in the rock after the rains. This makes the kopjes particularly good for spotting wildlife in the dry seasons – including lions, which like to lie in wait for animals coming to drink.
Overnight at Osero Serengeti Tented Camp
After breakfast head to Ngorongoro and descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro floor, home to over 2500 species of fauna and flora. Black rhinos, hippos, prides of lions and much more can be seen in the crater. Later enjoy your packed lunch in the crater possibly overlooking the hippo pool. After lunch continue with the game drive and later head out to Ngorongoro Crater toward Karatu.
Overnight at Ngorongoro Corridor Lodge
This is a beautiful combination of a hike in the untamed nature of the Great Rift Valley and a cultural tour in the nearby Mto wa Mbu. During the hike, you enjoy beautiful views over Lake Manyara National Park and see many birds, monkeys and other forest animals. In the village Mto wa Mbu your guide teaches you more about local life, while you stroll through the maasai village and pass by banana plantations and a school.
