We start out with a safari in Tarangire National Park, named after the life-giving river that wends its way through the park and draws a wealth of animals to drink. After this we go to the world-renowned Serengeti National Park, Tanzania's largest park and home to the world's great migration. After the endless plains, we make tracks for the Ngorongoro Highlands in preparation for our descent into the crater, one of the country's premier game viewing experiences. We bring this epic safari experience to a close with a visit to Lake Manyara National Park, home to a vast shallow soda lake where flamingo in their thousands feed and breed. Accommodation is in excellent lodges carefully chosen by Signature Safari for their quality.

Your personal safari guide and driver will meet you at the airport or hotel and drive us on good tarmac road 120 km to Tarangire National Park. Well known for its elephant populations with three families numbering in the region of one thousand each, Tarangire is named for the life-giving Tarangire River which wends its way through the park and gives sustenance from its cooling waters to a broad variety of game that comes here to drink. We spend the day in the park and hope to see zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant and giraffe to name a few. It’s possible to glimpse the mighty lion stalking its prey or a leopard relaxing in the trees above. An ornithological paradise, some four hundred and fifty birds have been identified here. Returning to the lodge for a hot lunch before heading out again at 1400 hrs to continue our game viewing experience in the park. With the day coming to a close and the sun setting over the Rift Valley, our driver will take us to the lodge for a delectable dinner and overnight.
Overnight: Tarangire Osupuko Lodge
After breakfast, we continue our journey towards the fertile highlands where wheat, coffee and corn are grown by the Iraqw people. Passing through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, we will be afforded a view of the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater before traveling onwards to the Serengeti National Park. Serengeti means ‘Endless Plain’ in Maa, the tongue of the Maasai, which we will reach by midday. The largest park in Tanzania, the Serengeti covers an astounding 15,000 sq km with diverse landscapes and habitats such as grassy plains, swamps, lakes, savannah and mountain. It’s in this landscape the great migration of wildebeest, zebra and antelope takes place and we will endeavour to take the opportunity to witness the thousands upon thousands of animals on their search for food and water, depending on the time of year. With our en route game drive behind us, we lunch at the lodge and at 1430 hrs head out for our afternoon game drive. With the day drawing to a close we return to the lodge in anticipation of excellent dining and capacious quarters to harbor our rest.
Overnight: Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp
After our hearty breakfast at the lodge, we head out to enjoy our wildlife adventure in the Serengeti Plains. There is an abundance of wildlife with over three million large mammals resident here easily justifying the Serengeti National Park’s status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As well as the migrating wildebeest and zebra, we may also see cheetah, lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant, hartebeest, topi, eland, crocs, Thomson’s and Grant’s Gazelle, amongst many more. With over five hundred bird species identified the park is an ornithological paradise; ostrich abound, secretary bird, marabou stork, and the largest flighted bird on Earth, the kori bustard.
Overnight: Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp
After our hearty breakfast, we head out for a game drive through the Serengeti. We may spot the Big Five as well as a host of other wildlife. Our game drive takes us en route to the uplands of the Ngorongoro Crater. This UNESCO World Heritage site formed millions of years ago in a massive volcano explosion that originally rivaled Kilimanjaro in height. The crater is 610 m deep and covers roughly around 304 sq km while its dense animal population of approximately 25,000 offers the very best game viewing in Tanzania. We arrive at the crater rim and enjoy lunch at our lodge. With our post-lunch rest revitalizing us we set off on a walking safari of about three kilometers along the crater rim to take in the awesome spectacle of this fabled landscape. Returning to the lodge we rest in anticipation of our dining experience and relaxation under the endless African night sky before heading to our excellently appointed rooms for a nights rest.
Overnight: Angata Tented Lodge
An early start today, rising at 0600 hrs for breakfast, we descend the bumpy winding track noting our passage through several climatic zones into the crater and very quickly we will be able to see wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, elephant and some of the more than 500 bird species in the area. With a little bit of luck, we might catch a glimpse of the endangered black rhino through the grass. After our picnic lunch at the hippo pools and a full afternoon inside the caldera, we head for our lodgings for dinner, relaxation and a look back at the sights and sounds of the day.
Overnight: Angata Tented Lodge
After breakfast at 0830 hrs, we drive to our final destination on this epic safari – Lake Manyara National Park. This, a relatively small but diverse park, 120 km west of Arusha, named for the shallow salt lake that covers some seventy percent of the surface area, flooding and drying with the seasons and home to thousands of flamingo and approximately 500 other bird species. On our exploration of the park, we will see monkey, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, elephant and, with some luck, lions lounging in the trees. The park is known for its diverse landscapes; not only open grassy plains but also primate-filled woodlands and baobab dotted cliffs. After our morning game drive we head to our lodge for a scrumptious lunch. In the afternoon at 1630 hrs, if desired we may drive the short distance to Mto Wa Mbu village for an easy walk to the waterfalls found nearby as well as to visit the village’s daily market. At 1800 hrs we return to our lodgings for dinner and relaxation.
Overnight: Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge
Breakfast followed by departure at 0830 hrs for the drive back to Arusha. Go via some curio shops to arrive in the early afternoon for lunch at The Arusha Hotel. We can arrange a short tour of Arusha City or a day room at a hotel before our transfer to the airport for onward travel.
