Day by Day Overview
A Ganyana safari driver/guide will meet and greet you at Entebbe airport then begin the journey to Murchison Falls National Park with a stopover at Nakasongola where you will have lunch. On the way visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, an asylum for rhinos where you can enjoy a glimpse of the white rhino alongside some birds in the vicinity. Later continue on the road to Murchison Falls National Park, where on arrival you can hike to the top of the beautiful falls.
Accommodation:Fort Murchison
After an early morning breakfast, embark on a half-day game drive on the northern bank of the River Nile. Escorted by a game ranger, you may opt for a game walk while tracking animals and studying animal spoors. Game in this area includes giraffe, elephant, hartebeest, lion, Uganda safari kob, oribi and a variety of savannah and woodland birds. After lunch, take a Nile Cruise to the bottom of the Murchison Falls and enjoy game viewing along the river.
Accommodation: Fort Murchison
After an early breakfast, start your road drive to Kibale Forest National Park as you enjoy the beautiful countryside landscape. About 5-6 hours from Kampala, Kibale Forest National Park is found in Fort Portal, a town at the south-western side of Uganda where you will enjoy views of tea and banana plantations. Enjoy lunch en-route in Fort Portal town.
Accommodation: Kibale Forest Camp
After an early breakfast, head over to Kibale Forest Headquarters for a briefing on the day’s activity. With a ranger guide, you will venture into the jungle in search of chimpanzees as well as other primate species like the red colobus, black and white colobus, grey-cheeked mangabey, olive baboon, red-tailed monkey, and L’Hoest’s monkey among others together with many different bird species. You will spend one hour with the chimpanzees as you watch them play, feed and groom each other. In the afternoon visit the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a nature walk. Rich in biodiversity and beautiful scenery, the wetland is a birder’s paradise with about 138 species as well as eight species of primates including the black-and-white colobus, grey-cheeked mangabey, red-tailed, l’Hoest’s and blue monkeys and olive baboons. Later you can enjoy a walk to the ‘top of the world’ along crater lakes. This area is famous for crater lakes view and the ‘mountain of the moon’.
Accommodation:Kibale Forest Camp
Today, after a relaxed breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. You have a leisurely drive to the park towards the south passing via the Crater Lake area as you enjoy the beautiful landscape with hills. Relax as you appreciate the breathtaking atmosphere at the park before going for an evening game drive.
Accommodation: Kyangabi Crater Resort
Enjoy an early breakfast then head out for a morning game drive to the kob mating area in Kasenyi. Expect to see elephants, buffaloes, lions and other fauna in their natural habitat. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, go for an exciting boat cruise along the Kazinga channel – a good percentage of wildlife is found along this channel including buffalos, hippos and elephants.
Accommodation: Kyangabi Crater Resort
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park where you may spot wildlife including the famous tree climbing lions, elephants and buffaloes. This is the lushest highland rainforest on Earth, filled with primates and exotic birds, valleys, hilltops and papyrus swamps. Arrive in the evening and overnight as you prepare for gorilla tracking.
Accommodation: Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge
After breakfast, you will proceed to UWA visitor’s reception where a briefing is done before tracking. It takes a few minutes but you leave with gorilla etiquette. Walk and hike this steep and slippery terrain until you meet the gorilla family. Enjoy one hour in the company of these brilliant primates! Looking into the eyes of one of these magnificent creatures brings home the distressing fact that they are on the edge of extinction, and that your presence contributes to ensuring their continual survival. Depending on the duration of the track you can either head to Batwa cultural experience, relax at the lodge or enjoy another walk around the village with the breathtaking views of the Virunga mountains.
Accommodation:Lake Mulehe Safari Lodge
After an early breakfast, you will go for a walking safari, where you will have the chance to get up close and personal with the wildlife. Later on stop-over en-route in Mbarara for lunch at Igongo Cultural Center to explore the life style of the Ankole and Bahima before continuing to the Equator to buy some souvenirs to take back home. You will then be transferred to Entebbe airport for your flight home.
