Welcome to Tanzania! Your Taswira Africa guide will be waiting for you at Kilimanjaro International Airport. We will then drive to your accommodation in Arusha (approximately a 1.5 hours drive, depending on traffic and time of arrival.) We will leave you to relax in the hotel for remainder of the day.
After breakfast in your hotel, we will visit The Umoja Centre, an exciting youth education project supporting vulnerable teens gain vital education and life skills. We will then head into town to show you the highlights of Arusha City, including the colourful central market and Tanzanite museum. Experience real Tanzanian cooking in one of Arusha’s many eateries. In the afternoon we will visit a fascinating recycled glass project (Shanga) who support people with disabilities before stopping for a drink in the leafy gardens of the Arusha Coffee Lodge.
We will depart Arusha in the morning and head directly to Tarangire National Park, named after the river that runs through it which quenches the thirst of a variety of animals, including giraffes, waterbucks, wildebeests, zebras and a high density of elephants. Tarangire is home to over 550 species of birds and its hilly landscape is dotted with baobabs and diverse grasses. After a morning game drive, you will enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the river, before continuing wildlife viewing until arriving at the lodge to enjoy a sunset drink overlooking the Tarangire River.
After an early breakfast, we will begin the scenic drive towards the Serengeti National Park. Along the way we will pass through the misty rainforests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you could spot some baboons, buffalo or elephants. We will break the journey at the archaeological site, Oldupai Gorge where the oldest evidence of humankind was found, dating back an estimated 1.9 million years. Once we go through the gates and into the Serengeti, we will head to the Ndutu area, where thousands of young wildebeest take their first steps, joining the great annual migration. On the way to our tented camp, make sure you are looking out for wildlife!
We will set off for our day’s adventure before sunrise, so we can make the most of wildlife spotting at this glorious time of day. We will go along the shores of Lake Ndutu before heading to the Gol Plains, where you’ll have the chance to witness the big cats including cheetahs and lions, hunting before the mid-day sun.
Next stop will be Lake Masak, a freshwater lake that is home to hippos and water birds, while attracting elephants, giraffes and antelopes to its shores. A perfect place to photograph these iconic animals. We will spend the rest of the day enjoying the abundant wildlife viewing that the Serengeti has to offer, before returning to our camp for the night.
After breakfast we will enjoy at game drive to the main Serengeti gate and stop for a picnic lunch. Heading towards the Ngorongoro Crater we will pass through varied landscapes and micro-climates – vast plains, sweeping hills and dense forests. We will arrive early evening at your selected accommodation.
After breakfast we will drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s safari highlights. The name Ngorongoro is from a Maasai word meaning ‘Gift of Life’. You will begin with taking in the magnificent views from the crater rim before descending into the crater itself. You will have the opportunity to see elephants, lions, buffalo, zebra and many other species of animals and birds. We will enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the hippo pool.
The Ngorongoro Crater is beautiful at any time of year and teaming with wildlife. You may experience clear views of the crater bowl or mists rolling down into the base – either way a memorable experience. We will travel back to Arusha City for the early evening.
