Day by Day Overview
In the morning you drive out of Arusha city to Tarangire National Park, with splendid views of the Great Rift Valley. After registering at the park gates you will have your first encounter with wildlife. Enjoy a game viewing drive followed by a packed lunch at a picnic site. The park has one of Tanzania’s highest population densities of elephant and its sparse vegetation, strewn with baobab and acacia trees, makes it a beautiful and distinctive location to visit. Late afternoon you drive out of the park and continue to the Ngorongoro Highlands.
- Dinner and overnight at the Green Hills Lodge
After breakfast drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and on to Serengeti National Park with game viewing and a packed lunch en route. You will arrive at the camp in the late afternoon.
- Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Green Hills Tented Camp
Today you will have a wonderful day exploring the vast Serengeti National Park and its endless plains. Optional hot air balloon game viewing over the Serengeti plains is available. It is the migration for which the Serengeti is perhaps most famous. Over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebras flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains every October and November, and then swirl west and north after the long rains in April, May and June. So strong is the ancient instinct to move that no drought, gorge or crocodile infested river can hold them back. After your full day’s game driving, return to the camp in the early evening.
- Meals and overnight at Serengeti Green Hills Tented Camp
After an early breakfast, drive out of the Serengeti and on to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Here you descend into the crater for a game viewing drive looking for the ‘Big Five’ – elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard and lion – as well as cheetah, wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and a wealth of birdlife. A breathtakingly beautiful area, Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a packed lunch and in the late afternoon ascend the crater to continue the short drive to the Ngorongoro Highlands.
- Dinner and overnight at Green Hills Lodge
After a leisurely breakfast you drive back to Arusha, arriving by midday for your onward arrangements.
