Begin the day with a drive into the magnificent Maasai heartland where you will be met by one of the Maasai village elders, Daniel. He will take you on a tour of the lands during the daily cattle drive and educate you on how his ancestors managed these precious lands for centuries. Later learn about some of the local plants used to make ancient remedies that have helped the Maasai survive in the bush for so many years. Enjoy a local cup of tea over a cultural exchange as warriors describe various aspects of their fascinating culture. Learn how to throw a traditional spear and climb an acacia thorn tree to escape danger. In the afternoon you will spend some time with the woman of the tribe and discover how to weave the frame of a new manyatta.
Begin the day by learning the traditional welcome with some singing and dancing. Meet a young Maasai warrior, a village elder and some women of the tribe to get an understanding of life in their society from different perspectives. Your host for the day has 52 siblings and his father has 6 wives, a starkly different world to the one we know. Use the time to get to know your host and ask the questions you wish to have answered. Enjoy the humour and warm nature of the villagers as you discover that they are just as interested in your life as you are in theirs. Later enjoy a traditional Maasai lunch after some more dance lessons and then head out to help some of the community members finish the manyatta build. Sit with the woman and learn how to make some traditional jewellery and receive a memento as a reminder of your time with the tribe.
