Day by Day Overview
Upon your arrival at Queen Alia International Airport, our representative who will help you through formalities and assist you to your coach will meet you. Transfer to Ajloun Cabins for overnight in the North.
Overnight: Ajloun Cabins
Walk down to the village of Ajloun for a small walking tour. The walking is generally easy, often on country lanes through the rural villages of Al Ayoun with opportunities for a pre-arranged lunch in one of Al Ayoun’s homestays. RSCN’s Soap House and Calligraphy House are also nearby for an interesting visit. Our driver will meet you in the village and drive up over increasingly high semi-forested hills and past the ruins of the ancient church of Mar Elyas to the Islamic castle of Ajloun on its dominating hilltop with a Visitor Centre. Head north to Jerash; Pompeii of the east, visit the theatre, temples and colonnaded street. Proceed to Ajloun, where you will visit Al Rabad Castle; built in the 12th century by one of Saladin’s lieutenants in the campaign against the Crusaders.
Dinner and overnight: Dana
Today we will have a full day hiking from Dana down to Feynan. Dana is Jordan’s largest nature reserve, covering some 320 square kilometers of spectacular mountains and Wadis along the face of the Great Rift Valley. From scorching sand dunes in the west to cool mountaintops in the east, the Dana Biosphere Reserve is home to a great variety of wildlife. There are plants and animals characteristic of true desert, of Mediterranean forests and of the dry plains of Russia. In fact, Dana is really a melting pot of species from three continents: Europe, Africa and Asia. Such a combination of natural communities in a single area is unique in Jordan and many of Dana’s animals and plants are very rare. So far, a total of 700 plant species, 190 bird species, 37 mammal species and 36 reptile species have been recorded in the Reserve, of which 25 are known to be endangered, including the Sand Cat, the Syrian Wolf, the Lesser Kestrel and the Spiny Tailed Lizard. Without special care, some of these could disappear from Earth forever, which makes the Dana Biosphere Reserve a place of global importance.
Dinner and overnight: Feynan
After breakfast we will transfer to Little Petra, also known as Siq al-Barid. Little Petra is an archaeological site located north of Petra and the town of Wadi Musa in the Ma’an Governorate of Jordan. Like Petra, it is a Nabataean site, with buildings carved into the walls of the sandstone canyons.
Overnight: Little Petra
Our guide will meet you after breakfast when you will be picked up from your camp and transferred to the sarting point of the hike to Petra. You can choose between two ways to visit the site of Petra. The traditional way is on a guided tour through the Siq (Canyon) to the Treasury. You visit the Treasury, city center, Royal Tomb and Theater, the High Place of Sacrifice and the Roman soldier tombs among many others.
The second way is to visit Petra via ‘The Back Door’ you go pleasantly down Wadi Ghurab amidst sandstone mountains guarding the approaches to Petra. This way follows a Nabataean route out of the valley and skirting round the final mountain on a natural rock terrace. It narrows slightly before reaching a hidden plateau high above the impressive chasm of Wadi Siyyagh. Just beyond, carved into the cliff face, the Monastery comes into view. Continue hiking and lead down into ancient Petra, before exiting past the Treasury and though the famous ‘Petra Siq’ to the Visitor Center. At the end of the afternoon, we will transfer to Wadi Rum for dinner & overnight.
Dinner and overnight: Wadi Rum
After breakfast our Bedouin guide will pick up from your camp and take you on a 4×4 jeep tour to explore Jordan’s spectacular scenic desert landscape. During your jeep tour, you will have fresh lunch cooked by your Bedouin guide. Pass Jabal Burdha for a small climb to the top and enjoy one of the best viewpoints in Wadi Rum. Afterwards drive down to the lowest point of the earth, 400m below sea level!
Overnight: Dead Sea
Enjoy some free time in the morning until your departure time. Pick up and transfer to Queen Alia International Airport.
