Your safari will start from either your Entebbe accomodation or at Entebbe airport off an early arrival flight. You will be picked up by your Driver/Guide who will brief you about your tour and then depart for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a very important habitat for mountain gorillas in Uganda and is home to over 300 of them.
The drive will take you southwest by road, crossing the Equator then on to Mbarara for lunch. You continue through savannah grasslands to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The scenic drive through Kigezi Highlands (commonly referred as the ‘Switzerland of Africa’) and banana plantations takes you to the gorilla sanctuary of Bwindi National Park. You will arrive here in time for check in to your accommodation. The late afternoon and evening you relax as you prepare for the Bwindi gorilla trekking experience the next day.
After an early breakfast and a briefing by a ranger guide, you will enter the gorilla sanctuary for your adventure. The beauty of this rainforest is remarkable – dramatic, steeply forested and dense landscape, criss-crossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. The time taken and the terrain varies with the movements of these great primates. Once you locate a gorilla group, you will be allowed an hour in their presence. The thrill of spending time observing these gentle and endangered giants is an awesome, exciting experience to be long savoured.
Return to your lodge for lunch and thereafter check out and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. Framed by lush, green-terraced hills that reach a height of 2,200 – 2,478 m, it’s Lake Bunyonyi’s 29 islands of various shapes and sizes scattered across the water that make it most magical — you could admire them all day.
After a relaxed breakfast you may opt to enjoy a swim in the lake before you set off on the journey to Entebbe via Mbarara. We will stop at the Igongo Cultural Center for lunch (traditional dishes) and you will have an opportunity to visit the cultural museum before setting off on the final leg to Entebbe. En route we can stop at the Equator for photo oportunities and the chance to browse the gift shops to secure yourself a final momento to remind you of your gorilla safari in Uganda.
