Day by Day Overview
Upon your arrival at Queen Alia International Airport, you will be met by our representative who will help you through formalities and assist you to your coach. Transfer to your hotel in Madaba for overnight.
After breakfast we will pick you up for the start of our adventure, our first stop is Wadi Bin Hammad. As soon as you enter Bin Hammad, you see a new world with beautiful hanging gardens, palms and ferns growing wherever you turn. You might even see orchids and perhaps sugarcane as well as a spectacular view of a hot spring falling into an artificial pool! Farther down, the cliffs are more visible, close together and brightly colored, where you shall see a spectacular arch where the overhang has joined. Continue to Dana for our overnight stay.
The morning starts at 08.00 with our first full day hike. You’ll be met by our guide after breakfast and start the hike from Dana village area. Follow the track down to the long valley of Wadi Dana, stopping during the hike for a picnic lunch and a cup of tea.
Hike Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: 21-23 km approx
Time: 8 hours
Dinner and overnight camping: Wadi Malaga
Early start in the morning for the hike. While hiking we will be passing the eastern side of smaller hills Jabal al-Hamra, Jabal Mahzan and Jabal Barwas. With Wadi Araba to the west and the rising mountains to the east, gradually ascend the slope to also cross Wadi Barwas, Wadi abu Hamdtha and Wadi al-Jilf to reach a point near the shallow wadi
Climb up on this trail on switchbacks through the jagged rocky mountain outcroppings and take a break to see the expansive view of Wadi Araba’s wash to the west below. Continue along the same path up a wide slot following the old bedouin route reinforced with bridges using juniper branches and well graded switchbacks. The slot widens to the top where you reach the saddle called Ras Naqb Shdeid, offering breathtaking views in both directions. (The is the last phone signal before Jabal Safaha the following day.) We will be walking the old main route between Bir al-Saba and Shobak.
Continue downhill finding the same old path to the right side of the saddle, cutting the steep grade down at the top and flattening up as it winds to the left to follow a small gully and meet perenially spring-fed Wadi Feid below. Turn right along Wadi Feid to access a pool above a large dry waterfall, great for cooling down and washing up.
Hike Difficulty: Difficult
Distance: 13 km approx
Time: 6-7 hours
We leave Ras Al Feid early in the morning, setting off along a rocky sandstone terrain. Throughout are spectacular varying views of the barren desert landscape with surprise encounters of desert vegetation and animal life. Approaching Little Petra there are signs of increasing human habitation of Bedouin camps, sheep pens, and small agricultural plots. We enter a small sandstone canyon and wind our way through to the site of Beihdah.
Hike Difficulty: Difficult
Distance: 20 km approx
Time: 6-8 hours
An early start in the morning with our guide meeting you after breakfast. You will be picked up from your camp and transferred to the hiking start point for the Back Door to Petra. Petra via ‘The Back Door’ takes you pleasantly down Wadi Ghurab amidst sandstone mountains guarding the approaches to Petra. This way follows a Nabataean route out of the valley and skirting round the final mountain on a natural rock terrace. It narrows slightly before reaching a hidden plateau high above the impressive chasm of Wadi Siyyagh. Just beyond, carved into the cliff face, ‘The Monastery’ comes into view. Continue hiking and lead down into ancient Petra, before exiting past ‘The Treasury’ and though the famous ‘Petra Siq’ to the Visitor Center
Hike Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: 12 km approx
Transfer from Petra to Wadi Rum by Car, arriving at Wadi Rum between 10:00 and 12:00. Here you will meet your Bedouin Guide at the Visitor Center for your 4×4 jeeps safari in Wadi Rum and drop off at the hiking starting point Um Eshreen um Akhras. We will have a picnic lunch cooked by your local Bedouin. From Ujm Eshreen, we start heading to Siq Al Barrah. Camp fire and dinner at our wild camp site by Siq Al Barrah.
Distance: 10–15 km
Overnight: Wild camping by Siq Al Barrah
Morning start from Siq Al Barrah heading to Jabal Burdha. During our hike we will pass Jabal Al Fetreh (Mushroom Mountain) and will have lunch by Jabal Um Froos. Stop at Laurence’s House to watch the sun set while drinking a cup of tea. Continue to Rjood Al Matalgah for dinner and overnight.
