Day by Day Overview
Arrival at Entebbe International Airport. You will be met and assisted by a Safari Chapter representative and transferred to Entebbe. Overnight at Protea Hotel Entebbe.
After breakfast, leave Entebbe and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, home of the mountain gorillas. We will drive along Masaka highway for at least four hours to get to the equator. This will be our first stop to stretch our legs and experience the two hemispheres that split the earth. At the equator, there will be performances by locals to show the coriolis effect which happens when water is placed in a basin on the equator. This experience is not to be missed. You will also take photos on either side of the world.
After a snack, we continue to Mbarara where we will stop over for lunch at the Igongo Cultural Center which has also been converted into a museum. Igongo Cultural Centre & Country Hotel is a leading recreational complex comprising one of the best museums in Uganda, Eriijukiro (the museum of South Western Uganda), a traditional restaurant, bar and spacious 5 star hotel, located 12 km along the scenic Mbarara Masaka highway. After lunch, we continue to Bwindi via Kabale, known as the ‘Switzerland of Africa’. Arrive at the lodge in the evening.
Today after an energizing breakfast, you will have a once in a lifetime experience of gorilla trekking. Report to the ranger station before 8 am for registration and briefing by one of the rangers. The guides will then lead you through the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track the gorillas. The trek can take anywhere from half an hour to 7 hours. A reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking boots. Once you find the gorilla family, it’s an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas.
After breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Entebbe. You will then be picked up and taken to the international airport to catch your flight back home.
