You’re picked up at 0700 for the drive north to Samburu National Reserve, arriving around 1300 hours in time for lunch. After lunch proceed for an afternoon game drive in the park, famous as the home of the Samburu semi-nomadic tribesmen as well as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, beisa oryx and a host of big game including elephant and lion. Dinner and overnight at a luxury camp/lodge.
Enjoy a full day spent exploring the reserve on morning and afternoon game drives. The highlights of Samburu are the spectacular scenic beauty, rivers and forests together with the rich, colourful heritage of the local people.
After breakfast drive to Mt Kenya and enjoy an afternoon game drive at Sweetwaters Game Ranch, home to a variety of wildlife including rehabilitated chimpanzees. The private ranch at Sweetwaters is the only sanctuary for rehabilitation in Kenya of these abused chimpanzees with two groups living in an environment as close to their natural habitat as possible. The site is also a dedicated black rhino breeding area. Spend the night at a lodge/luxury camp.
Drive to Lake Nakuru National Park with its shallow alkaline lake which is world famous as home to millions of flamingos. The number of flamingos depends on the water level which determines the quantity of algae on which the birds feed. Flamingos are known to migrate to other Rift Valley lakes whenever the water level is low. The national park surrounds the lake and was gazetted to protect the colony of flamingos as well as provide sanctuary for endangered species such as the rhino. There are about 25 white and black rhinos, one of the largest concentrations in the country. Predators are also residents to this park while Rothschild’s giraffe have been translocated into the park for safety
Departing soon after breakfast, travel south through the beautiful savannah and plains of the Rift Valley to reach the lodge/luxury camp in good time for lunch followed by afternoon game drives, dinner and overnight.
Spend the next two days on game drives exploring the renowned Masai Mara National Reserve. The open grasslands are home to incredibly rich and varied wildlife and the awesome annual migration of millions of wildebeest and antelopes is the highlight of any visit to Kenya from July to September.
Proceed to Lake Naivasha with a visit to Hell’s Gate National Park, which can be explored on foot or by bike for a different view (bicycles are available for hire at an extra cost).
Today you head to Amboseli National Park via Nairobi. This magnificent national park is in the foot hills of Mt. Kilimanjaro. This small park (392 sq km) is the second most popular park in Kenya after the Masai Mara, mainly due to the spectacular backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro on the southern boundary. Enjoy afternoon game drives followed by dinner and overnight.
Spend a full day in Amboseli National Park with early morning and evening game drives, soaking up the incredible views and wonderful wildlife. This is the most idyllic place to photograph wildlife against the stunning backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Enjoy your last morning game drive in Amboseli before departing for Nairobi, arriving late afternoon.
