This bike safari takes you from Morocco’s scenic Atlas Mountains near Marrakesh to the traditional coastal port of Essaouira, with fascinating Berber culture along the way. Surprisingly good road surfaces, amazing early season weather, a warm culture and some incredible climbs make this a must-ride destination. Wildlife

The internationally important reserves in the vicinity are the Argan Forest Biosphere Reserve and the Souss Massa National Park, the latter is well known for its estuarine birdlife, but most particularly for the last remaining wild breeding colony in the world of the Bald Ibis.

For those with an interest in reptiles, tortoises, lizards, including geckoes, the spectacular Uramastix and chameleons are often spotted, especially in the south of Morocco. It is warm enough near Taroudant for tortoises to be out basking at Christmas (everywhere else this species hibernates).

Day by Day Overview

Arrive in Marrakech, welcome by our team then transfer to the hotel for the night. Discussion about the tour with our tour leaders.

Start at 09h30 and bike up toward Tizi n’Tmatert (a pass up to 2300m). Take a rest with some tea at the top then keep biking to the Amagdoul for lunch there. Alternatively have lunch at Techdirt village. Afterwards head to Asni town between the Berber villages, enjoying the wonderful landscapes.

After breakfast, start biking from the Tizi Ouado pass to start the best downhill across the Kik farms all the way down to Lalla Takerkoust. Stop for lunch on the way and keep biking to Agafay Desert with a possibility of transfer if you are feeling tired. The rest of the team will go ahead after lunch to prepare our camp.

Distance: 65 km (almost all the distance is downhill, option to do a part transfer)
Elevation: +460m /-1000m

After a leisurely lunch depart by the local road to Mjat then on to Chichaoua. Continue biking until you reach the beautiful village of Sidi Lmokhtar in Morocco’s region of Argan. Argania is a genus of flowering plants containing the sole species Argania Spinosa, known as argan, a tree endemic to the calcareous semidesert Sous valley of southwestern Morocco and to the region of Tindouf in southwestern Algeria. Argan trees grow to 8–10 m high and live up to approximately 200 years. Dinner and night in bivouac.

Its medina (old town) is protected by 18th century seafront ramparts called the Skala de la Kasbah, which was designed by European engineers. Old brass cannons line the walls and there are lovely ocean views. Strong ‘Alizée’ trade winds, which make the city’s crescent beach popular for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. With lunch on the way, continue biking until you reach the beaches. Check in to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Secret Morocco Bike Tour

Written by: Mike Hary on 12 October 2019

My 13-year-old son and I enjoyed this October bike tour of Atlas with Lahcen, an extremely friendly and attentive guide who made us discover unsuspected places in the heart of Atlas. Very interesting comments on the history and the news in English of course. If possible at the beginning of your stay to get an overview of the city, especially as Lahcen will give you a list of interesting addresses in Morocco and give you some tips to make the most of your stay. Last asset, the flexibility announced on the website is not an empty word: we could easily shift our visit while we had already booked on the site and it had been confirmed.
