Tour Overview
This unique itinerary is a slow paced adventure in some of the most beautifully scenic and wild areas of Zambia. There aren’t many places in Zambia where you can swim but there are rivers in the Muchinga escarpment that are safe, clean and beautiful waters. Surrounding these areas is an abundance of hiking opportunities. Birding is great at all the destinations along this itinerary and the flora is also incredibly diverse and rich. You will have a professional guide hosting you. If you would like to do any specific hikes yourself, this is also possible as long as we know where you are going. We have a great chef to cater for you throughout this wonderful experience. If you would also like to try fishing, we can bring some gear along for you to use. There is no routine / schedule for this trip, only set times when we shall serve the meals.

Day by Day Overview
We will collect you from the airport or any chosen destination in Lusaka and transfer you to Pioneer Camp for the first night. You shall be accommodated here in their Miombo chalets on a B&B basis.
After an early breakfast, you shall depart for Mutinondo Wilderness. The drive shall take around 8.5-9 hours. You will have breaks along the way and an opportunity to use the bathroom and buy good quality coffee or cold drinks. Once we arrive at Mutinondo, the team shall start erecting camp, then the chef shall begin preparing dinner. Whilst this is under way, we recommend you walk over to the main lodge and enjoy some sundowners in their bar. The bar works on an honesty basis so you may help yourself and place record there in the book.
The following days you shall explore the beautiful wonders of Mutinondo Wilderness. It is a vast estate, some 10,000 hectares. Covered with Miombo forest, dambo, rivers, waterfalls and of course the most stunning landscape of the huge granite rocks protruding from the ground. If you would like to be guided, your guide shall host you along walks and take you to spots where you can swim and enjoy the fresh water, as well as tucking into some birding and botany. If, you would like to go for a walk yourselves, you are free to do so. Please just notify the team where you shall be heading.
After packing down camp, we will leave Mutinondo and head further north to Samala Camp. Samala is based in the escarpment on the banks of the Mwaleshi River. The waters are beautifully clear and crocodile free! Around the region there are several paths, mostly along the river. It is a very beautiful area and also does not see much tourism. We will camp here in their campsite, which has hot showers and toilets.
After packing down camp and enjoying breakfast, we will begin the journey to Kapishya Hotsprings. Kapishya is a beautiful lodge, based on the river which flows out of the Shiwa Ngandu estate. They have a stunning campsite, with flushing toilets and hot showers, based beyond the lodge. There is a spa at the main area, which you may book and one can also go and relax in the hot springs, a geothermal hot pool, with crystal clear water and white sand. It is a real treat and well worth the visit.
The following day we recommend you book a tour of the main house, We will provide your transport there and back. If it is possible to get permission, we can do a brief game drive along the lake shore on route back to Kapishya. There are bushman paintings in the hills not to far form Kapishya that you may walk to. They also offer a days rafting trip down the river which is quite popular.
To break up the return journey to Lusaka, we shall stop over at Kundalila Falls. They have a beautiful campsite, not far from the falls. It is possible to swim at the bottom of Kundalila and the hike down is well worth the view. You will likely arrive here in the early afternoon. After exploring the region, you will enjoy a scrumptious dinner under the stars with the campfire crackling in the background, likely sharing stories with your guide!
We will likely depart early from Kundalila as to reach Lusaka before the traffic picks up in the late afternoon. The drive will take around 7.5 hours and the final destination is Pioneer Camp. We will book you into a Miombo chalet here on a B&B basis. The following day, we will transfer you to the airport or a chosen location in Lusaka.
